I have not tested coils of an insight but the idea should be the same as with the spark plugs.

Probably you will be able to unplug them one by one, the one that does not change the engine noise whether plugged in or not is the bad one.

with scangaugeII in the OBDII
Bank 1 Sensor 2, OX2 reads "127" if not mistaken on startup and in the manual car I have and in time drops to "0 " in lean burn, which I believe the CVT doesn't feature, so I hope that's not just spurious or your that CVT maps are way different.

Bank 1 Sensor 1, OX1, when cruising on the highway in lean burn reads "50" with the scangauge. I don't monitor it much because I'm mostly focused on lean burn and %load.

On idle speed after a hot day's run, the bank 1 sensor 2 read 7 at idle with intake air at 43 Celsius and held that for several minutes prior to shutdown.

In my own vehicle when the nitrogen purge happens, with the rocking out of lean burn into enrichment, the OX2 [Bank 1 Sensor 2] sensor goes directly up to 86 or 87.

First thing I'd do would be to check grounds and connections, and given the age of the O2 sensor, though it seems early, it would be the first part i'd throw at it.

Exhaust or gasket leaks in the exhaust??
MAP sensor dirty??? With the rough idle, if not a bad battery system with the IMA not counterbalancing electronically the three cylinder ICE's pulses I'd look there too. Best luck, I hope it's not something like rings.

EDIT: service manual with "advanced_diagnosisis" pdf section is available in the stickies here.[click for link, zipped files]]

I would just send them for ultrasonic cleaning. You should get them back with before and after flow and spray pattern results.
Injector Cleaning
Fuel Injector Cleaning

I'm doing this right now, should have them back by January 12 with slow ground shipping. Will post flow and spray pattern results when I get them back.
Mine are 11 or 12 years old with 74000 miles

As already stated, front end alignment. Make sure it is set to specs and not what all other cars use. Once in a while the alignment shops look at the specs, and say that can't be right.......

What speeds are your commute at, and how many stops? Any chance the cvt starter clutch is worn and slipping? Did you check the cvt fluid level, or the color/condition of the fluid?

Did this happen right after an oil change? Incorrect weight oil or too full?

Also, valve that make noise are good, no noise may mean they are not fully seating, very bad.
