I've noticed the gage does this as well, though I'm not sure why. What I do know is it does it right at that threshold before you are off the throttle enough where it goes in to "off" cam mode and seals the cylinders so you are just coasting alone with no fuel being burned. At the point where you go to that coast mode the mpg gauge jumps quickly to 100 and will stay there until you give it enough throttle that it starts burning fuel again.
