Default Measurement Specs

Working on a hobby car and found the Insight Engine to be ideal for setup.
After doing to some homework, I have some lingering questions that I couldn't get from a shop manual.

Could someone answer these questions for 1st and 2nd Generation gas motor?

1. Distance from crankshaft bolt to valve cover (deck height)?

2. Is throttle mechanical or servo (cable driven or "drive-by-wire)?

3. Weight of engine.

4. Which way does crank rotate when looking at it? CW or CCW?

I've had to pass on Honda engines from 80's and 90's due to their engine rotation. I seem to remember Honda changing that around 2005 in all engines.

If I remember right the Insight engine spins backwards to what my GM and Toyota engines that I've worked on spin. I'll have to double check which way that was though. Might grab my tape measure too to measure the center of the crank pulley to the top of the valve cover. I might not be able to do this for a few days though. Maybe someone else has a quicker answer.

Thank you aisbell and MS Driver for some of the info. So far the checklist looks good for using this motor.

I got the distance measurement from a 2010 Insight Engine for anyone interested: 15" from crank bolt to top of valve cover. Length of block is 17.5".

1. I don't have a good way to measure the crank bolt to the top of the valve cover since I don't have a good straight edge, string, or anything on hand to measure it out. I can't fit a tape measure in there because directly above the crankshaft pulley is a hunk of metal. Sorry, I can't get this one for you, hopefully someone else has better resources to measure it. If I was anywhere near you, I wouldn't mind having you poke around to measure things. The engine is very small though. You might be able to call around different junkyards that have Insight engines in stock and have them measure the deck height for you.

2. Like others have said, it's mechanical, standard cable-driven throttle body with an electronic Idle Air Control bypass.

3. Based on its size, I'd have to agree with aisbell, if he would have said it was even lighter, I wouldn't have disagreed. The transmission was carried into and out of a hotel room with some distance to/from the parking lot by hand with just himself carrying it, things are very lightweight by design with this car.

4. The engine spins clockwise when looking at the accessory belt end, so the transmission end is CCW. This makes it opposite to most other cars around. Sorry if that rules out the 1st Gen Insight engine for you.
