Default Hybrid Resale Values

Well since i'm only one driver and i have three cars (2 insights, 1 HCH) I'm very seriously looking into selling my 2005 Civic Hybrid with MT and lean burn. Well much to my surprise i looked up the "value" on kelly blue book and it was super low. 72,500 miles, good condition and KBB says around $7,790... Now a bottom of the barrel civic DX with no options is $7300. A similarly outfitted EX (without side air bags might i add) is $9,500... something is off here. Why the almost 2k less value for the almost same exact car but with much better gas mileage?

The HCH is well appointed with power windows/locks, cd player, alloy wheels, cruise control, AC, tilt steering wheel, side airbags, and well freaking great gas mileage (i averaged 53mpg in the winter with snow tires on). With gas prices around 3.60 a gallon i feel like the value of this car should be much higher. I suppose most people out there don't care about a MT hybrid with lean burn and they won't understand how to get the most out of it. But still....

I bet i could find this exact car sitting on a dealer lot probably with a $12-13k price tag on it.

Anyone want to buy a HCH with an extra set of winter tires on separate steel rims? I would love to get $10,000 out of it, but probably looking for around $9,500 OBO. The front bumper was repainted (previous to me buying it) and wasn't done well so the paint is chipped. oh yea it also has a clean title just passed inspection and brand new summer tires (less than 3k miles on them) and is under warranty for another 7500 miles. let me know if anyone is interested and i can email some pictures when i get a chance.

Thanks,

Tim

Just bought my 04 HCH with 98k for $7800 from a dealership, so the value of yours may be a bit higher, but not much.

It's probably the big ugly mystery of when the IMA battery might fail that depresses the value.

PS: 53 in winter with no LRR tires is pretty good. I'm getting only 56-57 right now with warmer (non-AC) temps and LRR tires!

is yours CVT or MT? does the car have lean burn? I've been able to get above 75mpg on some mostly highway trips. Since i've made the "switch" from the cvt insight to the MT insight my numbers are atleast 20-25% better and i drive faster then i did in the CVT. lean burn in any car is a wonderful thing. glad i have it now

thanks,

Tim

It's a manual with lean burn... though I know I'm still trying to drive it like my Insight (RIP).

Dumb question but do some of the G1 Insights not have lean burn?
