I decree the grid charge / drain and charge was a success for our Honda Accord. It has not done a negative recal at all and we had to stop for a train and the autostop worked for over 7 minutes and the SOC gauge did not go down nor did it force charge after the train passed. It acts just like it did when we got it. So... another one saved (for now).

Red face 05 HAH: How to cycle battery

Man.... This is the thread I've been waited, all the 4 years I've had my 2005 honda accord hybrid, to read.
Thank God someone has confirmed that cycling does in fact work for this car!

Just a few questions:
1. What type of charger did you use? I'm on a budget waiting in a gap year between school.

2. How did you connect the charger assembly with the voltmeter? I've got an assembly manual and have plenty of experience with circuits. I'm just trying to save some trial and error time.

My HAH is sucking 26MPGs right now and I hate it. Think of all those poor little MPGs locked away in that prison of my backseat just waiting to be freed. I remember when mine also had 36-40 MPGs and I've had very little luck perusing the net for other HAH owners having successfully jumped some life back into that pack.

Oh and BTW... Did I say something along the lines of "You and your wife's car are my hero!"

Thanks for those pics and blog NOIVP4 interesting to see the ends of the accord battery and layout. Very different to the G1 and HCH1.

1. Charger? 3 meanwell 48 volt constant voltage power supplies in series with a meanwell constant current supply (not sure of the model numbers). There are other options. Total cost less than $75.

2. On the Accord pack there does NOT seem to be a relay that cuts the pack in half so the main terminals are HOT all the time unless the breaker is off. Be carefull! The voltmeter was basically paralleled with the charger.

Our Accord is now for sale since we got a van. (family getting larger) Hard to see it go. What a car! $12,000.

Hey thanks for this thread! Was helpful with working on the NiMH batteries from my HAHI. I have 2 quick questions viz.

ever since you performed the grid charging on your HAH did it started the recal again? Are you happy with the battery performance after grid charge?

Did you grid charge it again after your last project?

No recals since. Although I anticipate one soon since we are not driving it as often. It is probably due for a charge to rebalance. Yes, very happy with the performance, however, the Accord has never really been assist happy. If in stop and go traffic, it is nice to know the autostop works for a long time.

Grid charging is nicely documented in this thread thanks to thedhgroup.

If you read through it from the beginning you should be able to find the procedure for grid charging the HAH.

You could also take a look at my blog Honda Accord Hybrid Battery Pack where I have tried to document the removal of the battery step by step. You only need to remove the seat cover and the BCM / cover for grid charging. People are making / selling dumb grid charges made from LED drivers in this thread. My grid chargers

You can make one for yourself or buy one off someone selling these insight chargers. These should charge the HAH pack as well; same number of cells (120) and voltage.
