Default How many 1st gen Civic Hybrids sold?

I'm shopping for one, and I'm wondering how rare these cars are.

I honestly have no idea... I've tried to look up sales stats from various places, but even wikipedia only lists by aggregated sales through 2009 (ie: including the hch2).

I see them all the time around here ( a few times a week) whereas an I1 would be an every other month kind of event, if that gives you any idea.

I see lots for sale dirt cheap (cheapest ones are CVT), I assume they have bad batteries and/or failing CVTs and the owners are trying to foist them off. The HCH1 CVT seems to be good for up to about 200k then crap out. The MT is a MT .

IIRC there are about 100,000 HCH1 in the US. Can't remember where that came from though.

There are 1000 HCH1 over here, which is not many, but even that is four times as many as the G1 Insight of which there are only 250 in UK.

All the HCH1's over here have LB ASFAIK.
Certainly the manual cars do and we don't have many CVT's

The lean burn model started from the 2002 Civic HX it was also only available in a Coupe the the 2003 Honda civic hybrid, the Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) emission rating is where people gets lost as some review just say ULEV engine,
Honda say so 2003 Lean burn and a few reviews too.
Honda Media Newsroom - Honda Automobiles - 2003 Archive - Honda Creates New IMA System For 2003 Civic Hybrid

My 2003 hhc1 can get lean burn almost anytime. my dash command don't goes to 15.1 but it's peg at 1.4.1 and my fuel flow drops to think it's was 0.7 GPH.
If You just let up 1/2 throttle in first, second and push again, its moves out in a better mpg range a light trottle touch . you can get 52 in part city this way about 5 stoplight.that a cvt.
Get a 2003 try to get one that hadn't a update, as that why they lost the law suite, in back toning down the ima performance to extent the battery life.
Many felt this downgrade back then. Mine has no update a gem
All stock, refresh my ima battery too. My way.
had a friend who had the 2002 Civic HX lean burn he was touching 60 mpg
hwy.but the 2003 can touch 81 mpg hwy with mods.
The 2003 was a record sold years, next to the pruis then it's was as good as the early pruis, it's not a collectable, they have now reach the 100k + miles ima battery life range and extension, so logically half feel safer to sell now, opinion poll com rated the 2003 5 stars.they are well build cars for the money.
Her in Honolulu I wanted a pruis 4 years ago but could not get one for 10 k so settle for a hhc1 and waited for 4 month till one came up, he wanted 9,400 I got it for 8,400 out the door, with new cvt boots added.

Could the honda civic hybrid be a rare car? yes if it's could be similar to a Toyota pruis hybrid, if you the driver can control the electric motor by hand control. Pete selling such a tiny box mod that does this now. Installed its would make the hhc1 Diffrents and fun to boot.

The first generation ones with ULEV on the engine or window. The SULEV/PZEV versions had lean burn disabled.

There were two sets of cars available: CA-emissions and non-CA emissions.

The CA spec cars do not feature lean-burn and are SULEV (CVT and MT). The non CA spec cars are lean burn for the MT vehicles (ULEV) and non-lean-burn for the CVT's (SULEV)

CA-spec cars were sold in CA and also (I think) NY. The simple way to tell is: if it's a CVT, it's not lean burn. If it's a MT, check the sticker at the driver side rear door. If it says ULEV it is lean burn. If it says SULEV, it is not.

If I recall, there were about 100,000 2003-2005 Civics made. Many of the non IMA parts are interchangeable with the standard Civic (including body parts), so parts are plentiful and cheap. The largest concentrations of 2003-2005 Civics are in the DC area and also Houston. There are lesser concentrations in Wisconsin and the SF Bay area.

2006-2011 Civics area all CVT, hence no lean burn.

2012+ use lithium battery packs.

IT not one of my favorite subjects, regardless as I do have have one I want to know for sure, this is from above.

09/05/2001 - Torrance, CA.
2003 Honda hybrid

Honda today announced several new technological advancements that further improve the efficiency of its IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) System,

The engine in the new IMA System incorporates Honda's state-of-the-art i-DSI (direct and sequential ignition) lean-burn combustion technology, along with a newly-developed cylinder idling system.

Combined with Honda's continuously variable transmission (CVT), this new system provides a combination of excellent drivability and superb gas mileage. Expected to achieve about 50 miles per gallon, the Civic Hybrid will rank at the top of its class for mass-produced gasoline-powered vehicles. It is also expected to earn an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) emission rating.

New 1.3-liter i-DSI Lean Burn Engine,
A 900-cell three-stage catalytic converter and a lean burn-compatible absorption-type NOx catalytic converter will help the Civic Hybrid achieve an expected Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) rating.

on my door on my hood says " ULEV passenger car EPA" and there 5 wires to each sensors two on my cat. 5 wires are lean burn, both are 5 wires.

I have read that the lean burn is dirtier in carbon release even as its was the best in 2003 than the new SULEV/PZEV with is California carbon tax related ranking code, along that line. did I over look something?
