Coolant Leak Question
Last weekend we made a long trip; one night we noticed the heater wasn't working, sure enough the reservoir was empty and the radiator was a little low. Once we filled the coolant the heat came back.
Once we made it home I noticed that the reservoir was again a little low so I filled it up and have been keeping an eye on it for the past few days. I can smell antifreeze when I open the hood so I know there is an actual leak but was not able to spot any old coolant trail from the obvious places.
Fast-forward to today when I'm changing my oil. I get the belly cover off, put my fingers on the oil drain plug and feel liquid there; smell my fingers and sure enough it's coolant.
I look around and don't see much until I get to the oil filter, there is green crusty stuff growing around the base and I can see a little on the small hose that appears to be going from the base of the oil filter to the water pump.
I'm assuming the fitting at the base of the oil filter is some sort of oil cooler.
Now here's the question; is there any sort of gasket kit in the filter adapter that might be replaceable? Has anyone changed out the small hose leading from the water pump to the filter adapter, is it a specific hose or can I just use a generic straight piece? What's the likelihood of the water pump being what's leaking? It looks straightforward to change but I haven't called the dealer yet to find a price, is it even available aftermarket?
I've perused a couple of coolant leak threads on here but no one ever seems to post the actual cure.
