Default Oh boy - M.T. bearing availability

From what I have read in the threads one of the parts needed to fix the grinding from 3rd to 2nd is an inexpensive bearing.

Received this back from majestic today. Any thoughts??

Thank you for ordering from HondaAutomotiveParts.com. American Honda has informed us that the part/parts that you have ordered are backordered and are currently unavailable from any of Honda's warehouses in the United States. Unfortunately, there are no release dates provided at this time. We will remove it from the order, and refund the amount.

91002-PHR-003 BEARING, BALL (26X52X15) 1 $16.28

We will be shipping the remainder of the order. Sorry for any inconveniences this might've of caused you.

Thank you,

Try a local dealer, they are fairly common parts. If not there are several great bearing companies that can provide the same or better bearings for likely less money... I've had excellent luck with CBR Bearing Company for many motorcycle bearings I needed.

Well if you read it on the Internet then it must be true. Bearing fixing a gear mesh grind!?? How? Why?

More likely the synchomesh ring. But with all Honda MT's I've built its what is generically called the blocker ring that wears out first. Catches the syncro ring 1st, then the synchro ring catches the gear to bring it into synchronous speed with the shaft, readying the dog teeth to mesh without raking or clashing. The last time I checked in most Honda MT's the "blocker" ring and synchromesh rings are only available with the gear set (2nd gear set is what you would need).

Yes, you could "buy" some lower cost time if the blocker ring was available seperately, but the 3 work together as a "system". It wouldn't be fixed (long term) unless replaced as a set.

But without disassembly and inspection its all guesswork.

Good Luck.

You know, if the bearing is still a ball bearing, you might want to go to a roller bearing. It handles much greater radial loads. Subaru had a similar problem with wheel bearings and went to a roller bearing.

Manual tranny problems

Trekker - the above thread, where Steve (Leeper) documented his work on the tranny is where the quest for the bearing came from (now in hand from a dealer in Indy).

I agree that you can't trust what you read on the internet (though I sure do trust what I read here!) and until the M/T is apart, it is unknown what will be needed, but my plan is to purchase a used low mileage M/T from a yard and then "play" with this one and put it aside.

With my lofty goal of keeping the car as long as possible and with the odometer only at 128K, I figure that the original tranny would wind up going back in at 250K for the last leg of
the "journey" on the car. Who knows if all this planning will pan out and yield what I hope for...only time will tell.

So did you just go ahead and buy the entire 2nd gear set, along with this bearing?
