Unhappy Any other ideas???

Just put the big battery back in my 2002 after 8 months or so. Recharged the 12v, but all I got was the click-click-click that says 'not enough juice.' tried jumping...same answer. Finally put in a new 12v, and still won't turn. There's noises back in the ECM area, dash lights up like a christmas tree, won't turn over. No CEL.

Anybody got any ideas?

It's odd that it isn't starting with the IMA. What do you mean put the big battery back in after 8mo or so? Where was it?

So the 12V starter won't turn? Check to make sure it has power. If it does, then whack it with a hammer a couple of times.

Default Starter hammer

The 144v went to Ron Hansen for warranty work in early December. I got it back last week.

Is there some kind of floor jack I can use to get this thing up far enough to get it on stands so I can get under it?

7 months for warranty work? Please explain.
RHINO ramps are your best source for raiseing the Insight #1. (In the front)
Any jack will raise the Insight for installing jackstands. Just use the 4 jacking points for raiseing the vehicle.

Default Guess I don't need ramps

Looking at AllData it appears that the starter is actually accessible (if you call that access) from above and in front.

I've pulled the solenoid cable and put a multimeter between it and ground. Nada. Looks like I've got some circuitry problems between key and starter. [Issues deep sigh] I'll run a jumper from +terminal to solenoid tomorrow to double check it.

I like wiring houses. Cars...not so much.

Ron will have to speak to the 7 months.

replace engine and battery grounds.

Clic clic clic is cause by a bad ground to ecm, and the ecm take ground from the engine.

Tom,

Please call us. We don't have a phone number for you. The clicking from the back is the grounding straps under the hood that go to the starter, but I'm not sure why you're getting it instead of the IMA battery starting the car.

Possible reasons are:

Battery not turned on
Bypass resistor wire is dislodged
One of the three computer-style connectors (the blue and white ones) is not connected
The BCM-wiring harness plug is not connected
Lastly, damage to the junction board electronics

Once you replace the grounding straps, it should start up and then we can read the codes to see what exactly is wrong.

We are certain it is not the cells based on the testing results of what we sent you. If it was, it would start on the IMA battery and then throw an IMA light.

Ron,

Please rest assured, I am certain that this is not a 144v battery problem. Instead, it's probably something having to do with sitting for a while.

I'm going to get new grounds (local Honda doesn't stock them, so I'll be ordering them) and install.

First thing I did was check all my connectors, since we found that I had one loose the first time I put the battery back in.

I am concerned about the fact that there's no juice to the solenoid, unless there is some way that the rear end ECM can cause the starter cut relay to not kick in.

After I've tried this stuff I'll give y'all a call.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

The grounds are just pieces of wire with ring connectors. You can buy generic ones at any auto parts store or make them yourself. (They're about 6-7" long.)

I'm just concerned that it's trying to start on the starter and not the IMA battery.

It will do that if the immobilizer kicks in also. I have a key that isn't programmed and that is the response it gets.
