Default My turn for a P1447

Two weeks straight of 110 finally did in my battery it seems, though it has been getting weak for awhile.

The car is still running fine with assist/regen, but the available battery power is miniscule (I get a positive recall at 8 bars!).

Was planning on getting one of the new grid chargers, but they are still not ready yet. Does anyone still have rental chargers available?

Once the car cools down, I'm going to try and pull the battery cable and do the relearn procedure in hopes of buying some more time.

Good news! Doing the battery relearn cleared the IMA light and it has stayed off (for now, at least).

I'm curious as to the benefits (and possible dangers) of doing the battery relearn 3-4-5+ times in a row since you get several minutes of forced charge even if the battery is 'full'.

Would be sort of a poor man's trickle charger, but not sure how much energy I'd be really adding into the pack.

I would be surprised if the battery overcharge protection is not working fully during a battery relearn procedure. So I doubt that you could damage the battery during a battery relearn procedure.

You're probably familiar with this but maybe not under this name.

The relearn procedure calibrates the IMA charge level measurement to reflect the current battery capacity and charge level. This occurs automatically whenever a recal occurs. You can force an eventual positive recal by disconnecting the 12 v. battery or removing the EPS fuse briefly, both of which delete the stored charge level information.

Ah, OK. Yep, just a reset then, cool.

Hi! Do I need to capture any information on the IMA before I unhook the 12 volt battery? Will all of the radio stored information be erased too? My IMA light came on a couple of days ago and I am worried about what I am doing to my batteries?
Thanks! Rich at richcrandall10@yahoo.com

I think doing back to back re-learns is a good way to get some capacity back, I don't think it will hurt anything as the charge is only 6A. Eventually it will get to a point where the car does a positive recal very quickly after the reset.

But yes, disconnecting the battery will reset your radio too.
