Default Auto-stop erratic

When slowing for a stop I gear down to 2nd, start braking and around 15-17 mph auto stop happens. In judging the stopping distance, if I release the brake, and the gear shift is still in 2nd, the engine starts back again. Clutch always down. This regularly happens 2-3 times before it stays off, while I wait to move off again. Other times the engine stays off, then I shift into 1st and move along. Also I'll almost always get braking regen slowing down and braking in 5th and typically when I downshift to 3rd and brake again sometimes I get regen really good and other times not at all. 2000m/t 109K

low battery, either 12V or IMA. Try it with your headlights on and see if it is worse.
Any recals lately?

Sounds like normal operation to me. If it autostops, and you lift off the brakes before you reach 0mph or shift to neutral, the engine is supposed to refire.

5th->3rd shifts only seem to get regen if you hadn't applied brake pedal in 5th, or if you give some gas in 3rd before braking in 3rd. 5th->2nd shifts seem to always regen, for me.

Thanks Willie. I'll try the headlight test. Other responders feel this behavior is normal. You? I would be happy with it always being one way or another, but both makes me wonder what's up. Seneca, SC 2000 M/t, 109K.

Might be normal to some but when and if the baterry voltages to the different batteries aren't quite 'UP TO SNUFF' the autostop will cancel out.
Try this: Pull into your driveway during the day and as you come to a stop, shift into neutral, with the clutch in the auto stop function should engage. Green light on. Don't shut off the engine. Release the clutch and the green light should blink. Turn on the headlights and see how long it takes for the engine to restart. Results? This is a backyard way to check the 12V battery.
My opinion!
