Default ISB Parts (and their corresponding Number)

My ISB has hit the dust. I was wondering if Someone could give me the part numbers for ISB and Seals.

Stumbc,

The OEM part number for the 2000 Insight ISB is 91002-PHR-013. I confirmed this with hondapartsnow.com as well as my local Honda dealership just to be sure.

As for the seal, I think the OEM part number is 91216-PHR-003 but perhaps another forum member can verify this for you.

On a related note, how many miles do you have on your Insight?

There are two axle seals.

I have an OEM ISB in front of me right now and it has the numbers "NTN 6205" on it. Which probably means it's made by NTN bearing and can be purchased at any bearing supply store. According to NTN's website that's a bearing measuring (25 mm x 52 mm x 15 mm) which according to my ruler, matches the ISB.

It also has the numbers "TMB /26V150" on the inner race.

Aaron Cake,
Can you double check the inside diameter? The spec I see on the Majestic Honda site says that it is a non-standard 26mm inner bore. If it's really the standard 25mm bore, that would make it far easier to find a better bearing that will last longer.

Thanks
Chisight

The bearing is now at my shop so I'll see if I remember while I'm there later this afternoon. But I'm certain that I looked it up directly on NTNs site. I can't imagine that they would produce two bearings with different dimensions under the same part number. Then again, I don't know how they are numbered. Maybe the inner number has some significance.

You're right, the inner bore is 26MM. Just verified with a set of digital calipers.

So much for a cheap and easily available replacement.

Just a random tip related to the disassembly needed to get at the ISB. When removing the axles don't disconnect the lower ball joint as the manual suggests. Access to the castle nut is very limited and you'll likely find the cotter pin rusted. Instead, remove the brake and ABS lines from the shock and then remove the two large bolts securing the shock to the spindle. Then drop the spindle down and that will give the clearance to remove the axle.

Thanks Aaron.
Was worth a shot. It is promising that the inner race says "TMB /26V150" though, TMB is their brand name for new higher strength parts.

I plan to try to diagnose why the ISB failed once I get mine out but I'm not sure what I can do about it since our group's volume would only be a handful of units and NTN wouldn't be interested in providing customized parts to us.

It sure would be excellent to put a more robust bearing in there. Looking forward to your research, chisight!

It went out at 216k. I can't be disappointed Because thats well over the normal wear. Can anyone verify the 91216-PHR-003 as the correct seal I'll need for the job?
