Default IMA battery chargering

Hello Im a noob- I am a new owner of a 2006 insight that had a non working ima battery pack (had no charge in it) - I reconditioned the 20 sticks with info from this site- Thanks everyone for the great info-and With some help from Ron Hanson at Better Battery. Ron was great help and was nice enough to call me back twice and helped me evauate the specs on the cycled battery sticks. I was able to get a fully functional battery pack and did not spend a dollar, Just a lot of time was involved cycling the battery sticks. because I dont have any experiece with this car- my question is how do I (or how will I) know if the ima battery pack is charging properly? My dash display shows an almost fully charged ima battery pack, and I notice when I take my foot off the gas pedal and coast-I do see the charge indicator rise some (about 1/4 of scale). Will the charge indicator go higher if I go down a steeper hill and coast faster?
My concern is because - why did the ima battery pack have no charge in it when I bought the car- Is this from inballence only? I guess I wll know for sure after dirveing for a extended time and see how the ima battery pack does on staying charged. Again thanks again for a great site.

For long term battery health you will need to get a grid charger, you see them from time to time on the forum for sale, Ron sells them with his battery packs, also Mike is in the process of making a bunch of them right now. Here is a link to Mike's site.
