Default Got a P0325

Got 198K miles on my 2000 Insight - battery pack needs replacing.

Midway on a 90-mile trip, got a check engine P0325....think I was kind of heavy on the accelerator (but lightfooted most of the trip) See OBDII Code P0325 - Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction | HelpForCars.net

I cleared the check engine light with a ScanTool.

Fuel economy/performance dropped about 20% ... 76 mpg probably would have been 85+

I need to check my ground and CalPod switch....believe grounding problems can cause this. MIMA was acting a bit oddly (getting unintentional assist - again, check my CalPod switch.)

My catalyst converter has been marginal with an occasion P0420 in summer gridlock.

I recently put an additive for the catalyst converter in the tank - I don't use premium gas.

Anyone have a situation like this?

Can I get the timing back to where it was before the Check Engine light came on?

You might have to go through three "drive cycles" before the ECU resets to OEM specifications.
Never heard of a knock sensor go bad on an Insight. Use your scan gauge and see if the timing is at 12 degrees at idle with a warm engine. Monitor what the timing does under the thre cycles of driving.

I read a thread a while back where someone had a bad knock sensor. It was retarding the timing and really holding back the MPG and power because it was falsely sensing a knock. I think the sensor had actually cracked plastic or something that was letting extra engine noise into the microphone of the knock sensor.

I agree with Willie that you can monitor the timing, but I haven't checked to see what mine is at idle. I know mine runs from about 5 to 15 going down the road and jumps way up to about 25 when Lean Burn kicks in.

I know that the base timing on the Insight is 12deg BTDC which would be represented as 0deg on your scangauge. That was kind of confusing to me at first because the scangauge will actually show negative values sometimes! I was thinking WTF is this car really firing after TDC? But it is actually 12 -5 = 7 BTDC

I've been confused by the Scangauge's ignition timing reading also. But I think it does actually fire after TDC. I'm pretty sure I've seen more than -12.

What's interesting to note is that in the Honda Diagnostic Software, there is actually a parameter for "Knock Retard" in addition to regular timing. We hope to eventually have this parameter available on the OBDIIC&C Gauge.

Suspect #1 is bad wiring....need to fix the ground and check my CalPod switch setup.

This morning the ECU seemed to recalibrate the timing to it's normal exceptional mpg mode on the ICE.
