Default good insight mechanic near chapel hill nc?

Hey there,

I have a 2000 Insight that's hybrid system is no longer working, 12 volt not happy. I want to learn about driving the car without the hybrid working. Crown Honda dealership wants to replace the hybrid system for $5900. Any suggestions for a mechanic who knows how to work on this problem? Thanks for any help.

$5900? Man, what a crock of shit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, dealerships make me so angry. I can't believe they do that to people.

To answer your question, there are none.

We are the "mechanic", you are the service technician.

You will need to disconnect the three connectors that attach to the BCM in order to keep the 12V battery charged.

This is a simple procedure that you should be able to do. It only requires a 10mm socket and a T30(I believe) Torx bit. Good luck.

And if you can find out what your exact trouble codes/failure mode is, we can probably get you back on the road with hybrid functions working for about 2000$

I'm having the IMA 1447 code issue (IMA light, Check Engine Light, and now have gotten to the battery light illuminated) and want to disconnect the BCM connectors in hopes of driving the car as a 'non-hybrid' until I can replace/repair the BCM.
1. Will disconnecting the BCM do just that (and do no harm to drive it as such)?
2. Is the above picture all I need to do when removing/bypassing the BCM?

Sorry for a likely repeated question, but I've not been able to nail down those exact answers.

Disconnecting the BCM will prevent the systems from shutting the DC-DC converter down. It does no harm.

Yes, that's all you need to do.

I got the local mechanic to pull the codes. P1447 and P1449. Thanks for the advice and the photo. We'll see about disconnecting the BCM.
