Default No Auto Stop in ECON

So let me start this by saying that with the enviromental controls OFF the car Auto Stops with no issues. But, if I hit AUTO and then ECON the engine will always run when I come to a stop, it doesn't matter if I am in ECON with AC or ECON with out AC the engine will still run with no Auto Stop.

I read in the manual that it may not Auto Stop if the cabin temp is to hot or cold from where I set it. It doesn't seem to matter what temp I set it to and the cabin is comfortable so I would think that it should go into Auto Stop but won't.

So, any ideas out there? Here is what I thougth it might be:
-Bad control module in the dash
-Bad tempurature sensor in the dash giving a false hot or cold reading

Mark, make sure you have the re-circulating button in.
If the 12V battery is somewhat low it won't auto stop either.

I notice mine doesn't shut off on econ mode either. I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong, or is something not working properly to cause it to not shut off.

Per the manual the outside temp has to be above 41 degrees F. You can relocate the outside temp sensor to a warmer location. Joecvt has done this.

Getting colder outside - fuel-cut behaviour

Recirc button in??? I'll try that but since it is in Auto (AC/off) I wouldn't think it should matter. Also 40 is our low here, it is normally in the 60's during the day time. It actually gets a little warm in the car with the sun coming in so it would be nice if with just the vent fan running the car would turn off when I come to a stop without me having to constantly turn the controls On/Off manually.

If I am running heat the auto stop doesn't activate until the car warms up or the outside temperature is in the mid 40's. To activate the heat I will press the Econ button twice and set the desired temperature. I guess the other option is to manually turn off the heat when approaching a stop but that is a pain. I wonder if joecvt's Low Speed Auto Stop (LSAS) would work independent of the temperature; that might be another way around it.

So just to clarify if someone can give me a sanity check under the following conditions I'm assuming I should get AutoStop:

Outside temp is 60-70 degrees
Enviromental controls set to Auto (AC/Off) at 70 degrees
Engine and battery at normal operating tempurate

This is my first Insight and it hasn't worked since I bought it last year so just want to make sure I understand that it should be working under these conditions. Auto Stop is fine with the enviro controls in the Off mode so I know it can work.

Mark;
I believe that is just the way the system is designed.
With the system set as you describe, The system has several circuits involved, including the AC. If the AC comes on that in turn activates the low speed radiator fan circuit, etc etc. Its all about the LOAD on the engine.
I see nothing wrong with the system as you have it set.
In reality you would have to ask the engineer who designed the system WHY?
Nothing is perfect and we as consumers have to adapt. (Or figure a way around the system to our requirements.

Check the cheat codes, my dad's Insight is showing this same behavior and when I checked the codes on the AC system, it showed the outside air temp sensor was in error. So it just disabled the autostop at all times even ECON.

I have had 2 problems with AS. One was when someone apparently backed into my car breaking the lower grill, bending the AC condenser and knocking the temp sensor loose. It sounds worse than it is. I bought the car this way but it took a while to see that the connection of the temp sensor was loose. I just had to wire tie the sensor to the grill and plug it in. I was actually lucky that the temp sensor did not fall off as the wire connection was barely holding onto it.

The second Autostop problem was that my thermostat went bad. There is a rubber seal inside the thermostat itself that broke and held it open (I've never seen a design like that and the replacement looked like normal thermostat). I was still pretty new to the car and did not know 4 bars on the gauge was wrong. I did have a CEL that led me to replace the thermostat and AS returned. So I would verify that the car is up to temperature as a cold engine won't AS. You did not say how you determined engine was at operating temp.
