Default 2001 CVT Removal

Is there anything I should check beford removing the CVT form this 2001 CVT with 277k on it. It makes a loud whirling sound in drive and reverse. It will drive for about 10 minuets before it seems to go into netural. When I turn off the key for a few minuets it will go for another 10 minuets. I changed the fluid with honda CVT and it seemed a little better but I keep getting code P1885. Any Thoughts?

From the manual

P1885(34-1)(2)Blinks ON CVT input shaft (drive pulley) speedsensor
(see DTC P1885: PROBLEM IN CVT INPUT SHAFT(DRIVE PULLEY) SPEED
SENSOR CIRCUIT )

I would think that this code with noise could be something bad. did the magnet on the drain plug have an unusual amount of metal on it?

On further reading the TS is for a sensor circuity only not a mechanical issue. Follow the manual steps good luck

Manual can be found:

The magnet did have about a half teaspoon on metal on it. I can't find the troubleshooting part in the manual. Can you lead me to it?

Based on the 1/2 teaspoon of material, I would go straight to the Removal pages

I agree. I just thought there may be some chance of saving it. I will feel alot better with a replacment CVT under 100k for all the driving I do. Thanks for the help.

I'am now ready to seperate the CVT from the engine leaving the IMA in place. I don't know if there are any bolts inside the case holding the trans to the IMA. All the Auto Transmissions I have done in the past all had torque converters that had 4 bolts that had to be remover before it would seperate. Maybe someone can tell me where to find it in the Manual. Thanks for the help...
