Default Replacing O2 sensor question

I was told by honda that my main o2 sensor is out which is leaving my engine check light on. They said its the main one on top of the engine. Can anyone give me some tips on how to replace this myself. I heard its pretty easy on youtube and would rather not pay the 600 they want me to for the honda o2 sensor. I have a 2000 honda insight. Just need to know what tool and where i can get the sensor at a good price. New to the forums so much appreciation for the help.

Take a look at this thread, the O2 sensor socket is sold at just about any autoparts or Harbor frieght store.

Will these cheap o2 sensors work?

I have replaced mine and it is pretty simple overall.

Amazon.com: NGK 24301 Oxygen Sensor - NGK/NTK Packaging: Automotive

Would this be the o2 sensor I need to replace? Also is there some type of lug to get the old one off and put the new one on. I thought I saw it on youtube once. Wondering what people have used to get it off here. After I do replace this with the NGK 24301 Oxygen sensor, can I just take off power to battery and reset the codes?

Yes, the NTK 24301 is correct.

It should just unscrew if you have the proper sized wrench.

Yes, you can pull the negative 12V cable to reset the codes.

First though, what code do you have?

I can't remember the code but the honda dealer told me about 3 months ago that It was do to the o2 sensor being out and thats what they wanted to charge me 600 to replace. Then they said its possible that there was oil on that sensor and thats why it was not showing anything. They also said that it could possible not fix the problem and that the computer would have to be replaced after that.

LOL...

Dealerships are such pieces of garbage, they're really no better than the shady mechanic on the corner.

Is your check engine light on? If so, Autozone will read the code for free.

Yea I think Ill go do that tomorrow and come back with the exact info. Honda is a piece of shit. I asked them for the cheaper part for 300 dollars and they played it off like the company stopped selling the part. They would'nt even call me back after they knew they couldn't rip me off.

Location in your "details" please. Feel free to identify (name) the Honda dealership that possibly gave you the unjustified service.......So others will be aware.

Willie - Sherwood honda of North little rock is the crap dealer. I was listening to them on the phone just throwing out mad charges of like 2000 dollars this and that. I knew I was in trouble when I was over hearing these guys on the phone. They didn't even get to my car the first day. I had to leave it over night for no work even done. Next day they talked to me about the sensors.

Theforce - I will be going to autozone tonight to get the codes for which sensors I need. Are they old or new? How much you asking for them?
