Default How do you reset 'blink' codes / subcodes?

The 'blink' or 'flash' codes are when you jump two pins on the OBDII connector. You turn the ignition on and if you have any stored codes the relevant indicator light (such as ABS, EPS, IMA, etc.) will blink-out a number - long blinks for tens digit, short blinks for ones digit. I think it's a hold-over from OBDI - where all you had was blinking check engine light/s...

Anyway, does anyone know how to reset these? Pulling the negative from the 12 volt battery resets the IMA-related subcodes ('subcodes' - the OBDII scanner shows you the main code, such as P1449, the blinks show you the subcodes). But it doesn't reset the other lights/subcodes.

I have EPS and ABS lights blinking out codes when I jump the two pins in the OBDII connector. There are no main codes read with an OBDII scanner. I don't have any problems with either EPS or ABS systems... I want these blink codes gone...

Pulling the negative cable resets everything.

If you're getting codes immediately after a system reset, then you have a genuine problem.

So look up the blink codes and figure out what's wrong.

But aren't the blink codes subcodes, where I should be getting the main code/s on an OBDII scanner? I get no OBDII codes, only the blinks...

Most scanners can't read IMA/EPS/ABS/SRS codes. Should be able to figure out what the problem is with the blink code.

Do you know a source for the EPS, ABS and SRS codes? When I was doing this technique several months ago I was able to get info on the IMA and CEL blinks and what they meant (mainly on this forum), but not the EPS and ABS. An on line source would be preferred vice the service manual since I don't have one.

Here's a link to the ABS codes, and more OBDII and Climate Control codes in a spreadsheet format are listed in a post today in the technical section.

The EPS DTC system information I can't locate either. It cannot be found in the power steering section, but is stated there to be in the "General Troubleshooting Information" in the repair manual. Thinking they meant 'Basic Trouble Shooting' which in the preamble is described 'general' i had a look but there's no mention of EPS per se only Power Steering, figured the codes should be there but at the end no instance of any DTC mentioned in that doc nor no table to be found other than a diagnostic one which may be helpful.

The downloaded pdf's installed on your computer from Peter's Insight repair files work good if you first go to Index or Contents and use that to search and access the links within the documents. [If doing so I'd avoid the urge to 'correct' the mis-spelled document names of the original files ie. 'IMA swystem' or 'Mamual Transmission', ...just to be safe or it might all not work with all the internal links. ]

Well that ABS doc sort of clears up one of my issues - it says that pulling the negative cable does not clear the ABS-related blink codes (they're in EEPROM, non-volatile memory)... For my particular code - 61 - it says the light should go out when the system is returned to normal. But maybe they're talking about the ABS light itself, not the blinking ABS light indicating the code...

Thanks for posting the ABS codes. I have a 51 (motor lock) and 61 (voltage)stored, but no continuously on SRS light so I think the problems cleared themselves. Sounds like if I want to clear the codes then I need to follow the procedure for Clearing DTC Codes starting on page 12. Is shorting the SRS to ground the same as used to do the reading of blink codes?

If I remember correctly from a few month ago when I did the blink reading I had a 23 on the EPS. Guess I will not worry about it now since the light not on continuously. I would like to find out though just out of curiousity.

Correction...no continuous on ABS light (not SRS light).

I have a similar situation as you, John, an ABS blink code (61 though) and EPS 22, 23 blink codes. I've read about others with similar codes. I wonder if they're flukes of some sort. When I read 'voltage' for code 61 I immdiately suspected it was related to my IMA light going on...
