The records I could locate for my Insight show only 3 oil changes:
In-service date is April 2002
Oil change at 8,260 3/23/2005
Oil change at 11,659 (I assume part of the 15K mile maintenance) 9/15/2006
Oil change at 19,320 9/29/2011
On my other vehicles I wait until there is 3k miles then get it changed whenever it is convienient. If I did not drive the car much the most I would ever go would be a year, probably 6 months, but I have never been in a situation where the mileage racks up so little.

You pick various parts like the top, bottom, pan, etc. Could you just take a video of it and post it on youtube or somewhere for us to look at it? Id try reving slowly up to 3 grand if not check the oil pressure.
Our engines do have a rather unique idle. The newer Insight sounds like a singer sewing machine. It sounds like 2 lifters are clacking and its being rotated by an electric motor.

My car sounds like a diesel, especially at idle and parking lot speeds. It will make the noise up until about 2.5k rpms then go away as it revs higher. The noise is not noticeable as revs go downward: only idle and acceleration. I've had the valves adjusted and it didn't make a difference. Does this sound like your car?
To me, it sounds like piston slap (comparing it to youtube videos of other cars). I am putting money aside for an engine replacement *just in case*.
I just got back from a 225 mile trip and averaged 78 mpgs, so I think that's a good sign!

That's a little disturbing, and one of my main fears with low mileage vehicles. Maintenance like that is unacceptable. Under no circumstances should oil be left in the crankcase for five years, regardless of miles traveled. Ack........
What most people don't realize is that a lack of miles can be even more hard on your oil than, for example, extended highway travel.
OMG, I just noticed they left the factory fill in there for almost 3 years!
*has a panic attack* lol
I bet those two stunts took tens of thousands of miles of life off your engine. Especially the first one. Fortunately the Insight engine is extremely robust, so it probably doesn't matter much.

i had the same issue sounded like detonation going down the highway i ran 93 octane did the same 5w30 ended up making it go away with 190 k on her the 0w20 just was not cutting it anymore
Some how the expression of tossing a hot dog down a hall way come sto mind. Synthetic oil can work too well on a loose engine and you need to start throwing on the weight.
Did I tell you all about the prius 3 I rented at an enterprise car rental place? THe service oil light was on. THe guy said he would take care of it for me to drive. He flipped through the manual and found the process to clear it. SMACK HEAD.
