Default Guide to Swap out Battery

Hello All,
As can be expected, after many years of delightful service, my little insight's battery has died.

I am fortunate to have a replacement for it, and am planning on doing the swap out this weekend. I have been looking on this site for instructions on how to replace the old with the new, but I haven't found anything other than instructions on how to remove the battery from Ron's site.

Does anyone have a link to a guide on how to swap out my old battery for a new one please?

Thanks in advance!

Please use great caution if you have not done this before. If you look at Mike D's website under the grid charger 99mpg.com you can find links to install Mike's grid charger harness (video's on youtube). This should get you through it. You will need something like Mike's pack lifter and a second person to get the pack out.

The pack may not be dead. Do you know the error codes you are getting? If you do wish to dispose of the pack there are people here that may be interested in the sticks and the housing.

good luck.

The instructions to remove the battery that you just talked about have pictures and everything, as far as I can tell there isn't anything left out. Is there something missing that you need to know?

Unless you don't have the link, here it is: Honda Insight (2000-2006) - Battery Replacement
Don't expect this link to be around for very long, print it out, save the pictures, whatever you need to do.

Thanks everyone!

I don't think there's anything missing that I'd need to know, I just wanted to check if those instructions were accurate and complete.

Doing more research it looks like a grid charger wouldn't be a bad idea. Since I'll have the battery open anyway, I might as well install one. Have you built a charger or just bought one?

I'm considering the former, but don't know how involved that process is and would love to know if it's somethign I could do or would need to just purchase one.

Thanks again for all your help.

I'd go with the one from Mike D.... 99mpg.com it is the safest & best option. You may want to give him a call and see if he has a Gen 1 insight harness ready to ship.

Are you going to sell the old pack? If so where are you located?
