I put a newer, better OEM IMA battery in it last night and drove it to work today. I am delivering it to the buyer tonight. It is still hard to get full assist, and still *very* easy to regen.

I can barely push the dash SOC below 20 bars. I think the ICE is doing a lot more of the work relative to the IMA system as compared to my MT Insight.

No wonder the batteries last so much longer on the CVTs

those chunks look like bits of the cvt belt.... never flush a transmission unless the fluid/trans itself is not old.... ALWAYS drain and fill

Hey YourMainPardox, why never flush, only drain & fill? And why doesn't anyone ever rebuild these trans, it seems like such a waste to have to order new/reman'd ones from Japan????

Thanks

Any action on this thread?

My girlfriend's 01 CVT just took a dump at the ripe old age of 225k.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with the vehicle, so I'd love to know if anyone found a location which will rebuilt transmissions. She's decided to move on to a new car, so I've got some time to figure out what to do with the poor little guy...

Hey Doc, I'm still sitting on my car After the holidays I'm going to look for a used CVT because I can't afford a new/reman'd one right now.

there is a build up that happens on many of the parts and when you flush it things usually get worse if you have a trans issue. I work ed for toyota and that was in the suggested additional learning stuff we had to do.

We went through this on the nissan and the saturn vue forums about rebuilding these CVTs and everyone had issues from month 1 with "rebuilt" ones. There was a company that was out of the country which started making belts for saturn vues but they eventually disappeared because the majority of the time it is not just the belt that is on the way out and there was not enough demand for them. I think maybe 10 or fewer forum members got belts and only a few had transmissions that would just be able to do a belt swap and not have other broken or worn things and so the reliability was unknown for the most part.

Thanks for the ebay link guys! If there is a used Japanese cvt for sale, then there has to be an ECM for it somewhere!
Be careful of what you ask for. My daughter's 2001 CVT battery (original) began negative recalibrating in June, and shortly after, game over. I believe the combination of heat and age got it, as well as sitting for two years prior to when I bought it in March. Startled the heck out of her at first when it began the recalibrating. Tried grid charging it again, but it was only good for a day or two, and then it would throw P1447 and P1449 to boot. Ended up putting another battery in.

Self reply, in case anyone is interested:

My CVT is actually still alive. A faulty electrical connection at the input drive pulley (P1885 code) was incorrectly diagnosed by myself and a shop as a failed transmission. A few codes were thrown (causing the confusion) , but the P1885 was the only persistent code. Symptoms were a flashing "D" light on the dash, and minimal coupling of power from engine to the wheels when in drive. Car now drives fine, throws no codes.

My main issue now is that my girlfriend already bought a new car, so I have an extra insight in my driveway :P

I would like to revisit the idea from the first post. Has anyone from the forum opened up one of these CVT's to replace bearings? Online Honda parts dealers have parts listed for about everything but the main CVT pulley, so it should be possible to service these ourselves.

Additionally, the image in the original post looks nothing like the links in the CVT belt. It looks like chewed up pieces of the retainer ring of a ball bearing assembly. I found one of those pieces in my CVT oilpan and my belt is perfect.
