Could you elaborate on what the "growl" sounds like? My car has a high pitch sqeeking sound sometimes. Also my car really jerks as i'm moving from a stop. From 0-2mph i can feel the transmission spool up and then it engages and jerks the car forward. It happens all the time from autostop. Is this common, or should there be a smooth transition? I'd like to know if i should be concerned about my auto trans.

What did was remove the 4-bolt flange holding the bearing. I then used a clutch pack ring compressor to push the drive pulley out of the intermediate housing with the belt still in place. Imagine it looks like this, but with the belt still on:

With the drive pulley leaning toward the second pulley, I was able to spread the second pulley cones by hand enough to put more slack in the belt and slide the belt over the drive pulley. Let me know if this doesnt make sense -- i could be messing up the terminology completely.

Additionally, I should ask you which way does the arrow point on your CVT belt right now? (lets say if it were in the picture I just posted) I forgot to pay attention to which direction it was, just assuming there would be documentation in a shop manual.

My sound was a rumble or a growl. Think of a loud skateboard bearing going bad, only lower pitch. It would happen when you put the shifter into drive, revers, or low, regardless of if the car was moving or not. The sound would change pitch with the rpms of the engine.

How do you remove the start clutch? Do you need a honda tool or regular puller would work? I have been struggling with mine for weeks. No puller I can find would grab that gear.

2002 Civic CNG. Noise in reverse and drive.

I used a regular 6" 2-jaw puller with a bit of a trick. I shoved bolts in the shoulder (for lack of a better term) of the puller to force the arms of the puller at a wider angle.

I think it also helped that I had the start clutch pulled away from the secondary drive gear by a half inch or so when I started pulling the secondary drive gear.

This quick photoshop might illustrate it:

*Disclaimer: this is what worked for me -- it may not work for everyone else*

Your images are HUGE and the host is incredibly slow. Can you shrink them so I'm not scrolling three pages left and right to see them? ..well if they ever fully loaded I'd be able to do that and see them. It's also terribly distorting the page and its normal word wrap.

Images are all under 800px now. Who would you recommend for a host? I currently use JustHost and they were fast for the first 2 years
