I also cleaned my K&N air filter the other day... maybe I used to much oil and a sensor isn't reading properly?
There is a real controversy about the effectiveness of K&N oiled air filers.
1) some people/studies claim that the oil slowly leaks into the air intake system, coating everything, sensors included, with a thin film of oil that deteriorates their functioning.
2) The oil actually blocks the holes in the filters, thereby reducing the amount of air that is sucked into the intake, so the intake system has to work harder to get the same amount of air.
3) K&N requires you to use a pre-filter if using in sandy or dusty conditions, and some people that call K&N about using the filter in sandy/dusty conditions say that they admit it will not provide adequate protection.
4) on one newsgroup someone wrote - Brenspeed, a well known Mustang parts place did A DYNO TEST using a new 2011 5.0L mustang and the K&N resulted in a very slight decrease in power than the FACTORY AIR FILTER. Slim margin for error, but if K&N made a measurable difference it would be easily noticed. Unfortunately for K&N it showed about a .5 to 1% loss of power compared to factory filter
So don't rely on your K&N too much...

I wonder if Honda reman batteries last longer when they're periodically grid charged.
I would think that goes without saying. The grid charging rebalances the sticks/cells so that they are all starting out from a more common SOC/chemistry equilibrium.
I've just gotten a new battery pack from Eli (www.BumbleBeeBattery.com) and I plan to run it thru a couple charge/discharge cycles from time to time to keep the sticks/cells in better balance.

I spoke with an Engineer at Honda R&D recently, and he pretty much confirmed that there is no such thing as a brand new Honda battery for the 1st gen Insight and HCH anymore. He opted for one of our batteries rather than the rebuilt Honda units, even though he could have gotten one for cheap.

Rush, Yea I am aware that K&N filters don't provide improved power; there are several articles out there. I just use them because they are cheaper to own over time rather than replacing air-filters very 15-20K miles. I cleaned mine for the first time with 40k on it and it probably could of gone another 20K. The filter is actually a Spectre I think... but still a cotton gauze filter... same thing. I called the dealer about the warranty and they stated their warranty was on the invoice... which did not mention the battery. I was a blanket statement relating to their work and Honda Parts. I am going to call Kai tomorrow and see if I can get the warranty papers for the battery. I'll let you all know what I find. Last night coming home, I was easily able to cruise at 90-95mph with a group of cars that passed me. The battery must have been near death when I bought the car in March of last year. Recals were an everyday, at least twice a day thing for me with the old battery. Last night I could only manage to get it down to 1/3 SOC. I never got to put the trickle charger put together this weekend, so i will try to build it by the end of the month. What is a good interval to level the pack out? Once a month?
We don't really know, I've been recommending something like once every 4-6 months. However, your pack already has a leg in the grave since it's rebuilt, so once a month may be better?
We know that the stock batteries can last 7-12 years when new, without any external meddling... I am thinking there's going to be a pretty fine line between helping and hindering the pack.
