All of this is under the assumption that the code will not come back if you don't use assist.
I don't think that is a safe assumption, as there are many types of battery problems, and they all respond differently.
Good luck

Yes, agreed, last time I checked it was one of the 1449 codes (battery deviation or deterioration, can't remember which) not the dreaded one that shuts down the DC-DC converter. That code check was done several months ago and so I need to read the blinks again. Battery basically does not have any capacity and needs to be balanced with a grid charge (got a few of the parts for the inexpensive charger, just need the courage to start building or buy one of yours). Figured a success this way could give me more time to procrasticate.

but yes multiple resets will get the battery as full as the IMA system will allow.

I know my insight losses track of the real state of charge.
I have to to three reset charges to get it back to what I consider normal

fun stuff...

Yes, I was not very clear. I meant that after restarting the car after disconnecting/connecting the 12V (the reset), I could just let it idle until a full SOC was indicated on the dash before starting the process again.

Jason, I went thru the same process in MA in August, and found a shop that was willing to do the babying needed to get the car past. It was hot and we couldn't tell if the cooling fan was working, so he drove it gently 20 miles or so with the battery uncovered, and the code stayed away long enough to pass (he did the inspection). This shop is near Fall River, but might be worth the drive. Was for me (Concord).

I am getting a 1449 - blink code 78 - which seems to get set when I drive hard and use the battery more, both assist and charging. By going easy I can avoid setting the code for days/weeks at a time tho I suspect I'll be getting a new battery.
PM me if you would like the shop info.
