P0500, EPS, and funky Speedo
Hi all,
I haven't posted in a while but the car has been running great for a couple years until about last week.
I was driving from Colorado to Ohio and got caught in the snowstorm last Thursday in around Wisconsin. It was at this time the speedo readout when to Zero. (!) not so great in a snow storm. At speed I switched off the key, then switched it on again, and it came to life. It would cut in and out the rest of the afternoon for no apparent reason as we found a hotel for the night. In the back of my mind I thought it was the VSS wire which I split for my cruise control. The next day driving to Ohio, I had no problem at all. My wife Was aware of her feet trying to not step on the ECM (?).
When I got home, I did some work on the car. I respliced the VSS wire and added a soldered in connector so I know that isn't the problem. I did some work on the stereo, and cleaned the EGR valve and Plate.
Today, on my way up to Toledo, the speedo cut out on me again by displaying zero. BUT, when I have the brake pedal slightly depressed, it works. Very very strange. (maybe a pedal switch??). A little bit after I figured that out, I popped a P0500 code (speed sensor) and slightly after that my EPS light came on. When I stepped on the brake the EPS light came off (strange).
Also, regen somehow is now not working, mima accel is, but no regen. It does somewhat regen but it acts like it's sitting in your driveway. Like when you are parked and you pull the regen back on the joystick, it slowly gives you up to about 2 green lights. Same thing is happening here.
Anyone experience problems with this P0500 code like this?
I plan on doing a ECM (?) reset like some have suggested here. Checking the VSS connection in the engine compartment, and possibly totally rewriting my clutch and brake switches with my cruise control. Any one else have other ideas???
