Question 2001 Insight running rough in cold climate

I am wondering if anyone else is having a problem like this. I probably will take the car in to the Honda dealer to check it out, but I want to be sure it isn't something temperamental about the car because it doesn't like Juneau, Alaska in the winter time. It's not outrageously cold...just cold and damp like the Pacific Northwest on steroids. I brought it north in December, and it really doesn't seem to like it here.

Hi,
I haven't noticed any more roughness in mine in cold weather, it actually Idles better as the high rpms on the start last until the engine warms up.

The car runs richer mixture during warm up , so it sounds better and more power, but the mpg suffers.

do you more details of the problem?

It's an automatic, but it reminds me of how a car acts when the speed drops but the driver doesn't shift into a lower gear. It does it quite noticeably up to 40 mph or so, and then not as apparently, but I think it's still doing it. And it doesn't matter whether it's cold or up to regular operating temperature. It just runs kind of jerky. Sounds like I'd better take it in and have it checked.

Hi , I do not have any experience with an automatic transmission, but from the manuals it looks like a belt and two wheels that change their diameter depending on the conditions and need... It is possible the cold affects them in some way , the mechanic should be able to help.

Thanks. It looks like a visit to the "car doctor" is going to be in the works very soon.

The car is fairly new to me. I'll see if I can check that out tomorrow. Thanks for the idea.

In normal temps, when starting from a stop, does it jerk a bit until Bout 6 mpg, or does it take off nice and smooth?

Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm going 6 mph or 40 mph. It's doing the same thing. Not smooth.

Mine is manual , when I bought it the EGR valve was gone and it was jerky around 1800-2000 rpm. you can disconnect the EGR valve and check how it feels then, if it smooths out then it might be time for a new EGR and plate cleaning.
