Question New (2000 272K MT Insight)

Hello,

I'm the new owner of a 2000 MT with 272.5K posted for sale here FS: Red 2000 Insight 272k in Bay Area

Obviously the car has some miles, just brainstorming things I should do, any pointers/tips?

-engine oil change

-trans fluid change

-spark plug change

-eng/cabin air filter change

-Buy/fix aero panels under engine damaged/missing

-Replace shocks and struts? (squeaky/ hard ride)

-find source of clanking noise in rear area(spare tire, back hatch?)

-find cause of "hissing" noise coming from passenger side dash when a/c is running

Basically any tips for fixing the ride quality, Hissing noise from ac cycling numerous times, and common issues of banging noises.

Brake an clutch fluid replacement.
Ride quality can be improved with aftermarket springs.
Honda rear shocks $$$, Monroe's can be adapted cheaply.
Hissing is not too common in my opinion. If the ac is working I might just ignore it.

Thanks for the reply Kevin!

Ive been searching around this forum with regards to the suspension, seems like trying to find a unicorn. Im not sure if I should do just shocks/struts or change shocks, struts, and springs.

On Majestic I built a suspension list and it seems to be about $1000 with everything assuming I change out the bolts, nuts, the bearing flanges, etc due to surface corrosion from the east coast. Any good source for springs or basically stock from majestic is the way to go?

I'll definately change the clutch fluid too. Is there a big difference between Honda Dot 3 and Dot 3?

The a/c "hissing" sounds kind of like a vaccum line changing suction. It seems to come and go with the ac coming on. everything works but it is very noticable.

The A/C in my Insight has always hissed a bit. It's not a constant hiss, but tends to come and go gradually, probably as the A/C compressor cycles. The A/C has always worked well, so I now consider this to be normal.

My AC does the same thing, works fine but when the compressor turns off you can hear a hissing sound on passenger side dash. Last year I vacuumed out the entire AC system and properly serviced it with oil and freon, this did help the hissing noise but it has slowly returned over time. I'm leaning towards the expansion valve but deam it not worth replacing at this point since it is putting out cold air and seems to be working fine.

PS:: My wife has doubed my car "The iron lung" because it used to hiss so loudly.

GG:
Try running it without the inside cabin filter, see if that changes the "hissing".

Your welcome.
Try using the Google search box on upper left for "Monroe shocks".
The non oem springs are Daewoo Maitz / Chevy Aveo, another site Google. They are stiffer than Honda and most people like them. I'm not speaking from actual experience.

Suspension squeeks can be lower control arm bushings...try lubricating w silicone grease.

Check your lower motor mount, the rubber is probably cracked.

Dot 3 is Dot 3, IMO.
