Default Service indicator

I cannot access the service indicator on my new Insight--it does not appear on the MID when I scroll through the menus. It's as if it has been switched off. I will take the car back to the dealers when I get a chance, but I was wondering if anyone on here new how to enable it?

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

PS I searched the site but couldn't find anything.

You can get a copy of the Owner's Manual at https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...A2MA2010OM.pdf if you have the Navigation https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/.../A2M2010NV.pdf

On the right-hand side of the dash there is the 'Select/Reset Knob' (pg 73). It cycles through the standard MID menus, Trip A info, Trip B info and Service Info 'Engine Oil Life' (pg 78 ). The Maintenance Minder is covered in more detail on page 337.

If something comes up it will display the warning on the mid regardless. Just this morning it has gotten cold enough to trip the Tire Pressure Monitoring System and I had a big icon on the mid screen.

Thanks for the reply JimJohn. I have read my owners manual but it does not tell me (or I cannot find) what to do.

I know that when you press the 'select/reset knob' it cycles thorugh trip A, B etc, but I do not get the service info.

Chris.

Unless the system has thrown a code the service screen will only show the oil life info. At least that is the only thing I saw when I did a run through of all of the controls. I've read the service manual and of course Honda service has a tool to hook up to the data connector that gives them control over all kinds of settings. I have the AutoTap scan tool and it only shows the standard ODBII items. What exactly are you looking for?

That happened to me yesterday! I've never had a TPMS before, didn't know what to make of it - drove the car the day before, everything's fine; then yesterday, suddenly my tire pressure's low? Did I run over a nail?

Checked all the tires for punctures, couldn't find any and (since I was going past there anyway), drove right to my Honda mx shop to ask what's going on. Result: short explanation (duh!) and a pressure top-off.

Another opportunity to merge "book-knowledge" with real-world experience...

Yeah, I was kind of waiting to see if they would trip. I just topped mine off at 35psi for now. With winter coming I figure I would rather have traction than mileage. I'll give them a week and see where they are. The silly thing is the car knows which sensor triggered. Each tire has a different code. If I was really on top of things I should have hooked up my scan tool and checked it out, but that darn 'getting to work' thing got in the way

Default Winter pressure

Apostolakis set mine at the Honda-recommended 33 psi (they were all down to 29 which apparently is the lower-end limit to trigger the TPMS). Mx manager said "we're going to get a whole rash of those in the next couple of weeks", so I guess I'm not the only one.

I had given thought to increasing pressure to 36 psi. I saw another thread which specified 35.7 (?! Who has a pressure gauge THAT sensitive?) as the break-point where increased milage merged with optimum traction footprint; but that was for dry roads. Any recommendations for our (NE Ohio) winter road conditions?

None yet (outside of 'drive for the road conditions'). I'm just going to play it by ear and see how things work out. 35.7, yeah that is funny everybody knows 35.65 is MUCH better

These are a lot smaller tires than I had on my last car but close to what I had on my TR7. Too bad the TPMS doesn't report the actual measured psi for each tire. That would sure help monitoring things, as it is one has to deal with the little pressure loss when checking it with a gauge. But if that is the worst thing I have to deal with I'll take it (it is still more than I had before)

Chris, Which button are you pushing to try and see the oil life? It is not the lever on the steering wheel. It is the dashboard dimmer knob that is actually integrated into the display screen. If you push it in it will go through and show you the oil life.
