Default Auto Stop Oddity's with Econ OFF.

Here in memphis, when the temps are hitting 100 and humidity is 80%, there is simply no way to drive with Econ on.

So, i've been leaving it on. Getting about 43 MPG, not bad, not great.

On spring/fall days With Econ Off and the AC off (windows down), autostop never kicks in. BUT with econ off and the AC on.. at stop lights i get autostop about 50% of the time. And the engine shuts off exactly 8 seconds each time..then kicks on.

Why on earth would Autostop happen with ECON OFF ?

Not to mention its not EVERY time, but just 50% of the time.

Anyone else seeing this?

Turn your climate control to OFF if your windows are down. If you just click A/C off, then the fan tries to "match" the humidity level to what it would be with the A/C on. That makes it so the fan runs too high for auto-stop to work.

When you had ECON OFF, and the A/C on, the humidity levels were OK, and Auto-stop worked.

Really good advise! Thanks.

I will give it a shot.

Well, kicking the Climate Controls totally off does kick Autostop on with Econ off.

So these cars are designed to kick into autostop at a stop with econ off or on?

I assumed that with Econ Off, that Auto Stop was to never kick in.

It just kicks in less often when ECON is off. And that's normally just when the A/C is running. If it's 60 degrees out, and you have the climate control off, you should be able to auto-stop for quite a while, even with ECON off.
