Default Concerns regarding N.E.snow in hatch gap.

Hello...I am a new owner of a I2 EX with approx 800 miles on her. After opening the hatch in the rain, I see a gush of water flowing in the top gutter from the newly opened hatch and from the main roof surface and when the I2 is parked under small leafed trees and under pine I find a load of the leaves and needles inside the hatch area internal gutter. As a result I am very concerned about snow inside the same area freezing and then when opening the hatch with snow and ice in the top gutter breaking the hatch window. The lever action on the top part of the window has to be great enough to break the glass.

Living in New England we have enough snow to be a worry. I spoke to the dealer and was informed that we will have to wait and see if it breaks. Isn't that a very logical answer ...he wouldn't be paying for the window or would the warrenty. He also stated that they have not heard of a previous complaint. Three other I2 at the dealership had the same gap.

Has any one who purchased the first shipments of I2 seen enough snow to have seen the problem develop? I am presently researching various mouldings to counteract the wide gap. I would rather do a fix now than have to pay for a new hatch window. Besides having to continually vacuume the gutter is BS! ( I can't park anywwhere else ) Thanks

I'm looking but it seems okay to my eyes, snow will generally melt a bit around that area given the trunk is heated, if you turn on the heat. Otherwise I'm not sure what the concern is water flows down to the bumper and rolls off, maybe some pictures?

A car cover would help keep snow/ice out of the gap around the hatch, but they are a nuisance to deal with in the type of weather that might cause ice build up around the hatch - they are even a pain when wet from rain, let alone loaded with snow and ice. Japan has areas of heavy snow/ice, so hopefully Honda thought about this issue.

Thanks for the input. I misinterpeted the comment about the car cover.Sorry. I don't think a cover would solve the problem as I had one for another car during a snow storm and couldn't get it off. Missed work. I'm not concerned about water not frozen. I'm hoping to find a solution with a moulding.

Question found the moulding

Hi...I have found the moulding that will fit for both the top and sides of the hatch. I will get a buddy to assist in the installation next week. I will let all know how it works for rain and water...will have to wait for the first snow storm of the season for a report on that. It shouldn't be too long.

So you were looking to completely plug the gap up and not have water run out those areas? I guess it makes sense but at some point if the backs up wouldn't the water just run off and start building ice on top anyways?

I'm still interested in the pictures take pictures!

If water runs out that would be fine. I am hoping the new moulding will overlap the rubber at the top of the hatch window eliminating my concerns.

I will take photos of a before and after view. I am hoping they will be much more clear than a verbal description. I think I am more interested in eliminating as much water, snow and ice in the top gutter as possible.

I have to park my car outside as well. I wouldn't worry about it unless something happens. Then I'm sure it would be repaired under warranty, and THEN you could put moldings in.
