Default Tighten Fuel Cap

Anyone gotten this "Tighten Fuel Cap" message on the MID? I thought I had remembered reading it a long time ago in the forums, but I couldn't find the thread. The fuel cap is fine, it was tight. So, I unscrewed it, took it off and put it back on again and restarted the car - same problem, "Tighten fuel cap" info message comes up on the MID. Anyone know how to reset this?

First, take off the cap and check the seal area on both the filler-neck and on the cap itself. If they both appear clean you may have a bad cap (it happens). Second make sure you are tightening it enough, tighten it until it clicks at least once. The manual says 'The message should go off after several days of normal driving once you tighten or replace the fuel fill cap. The ‘‘TIGHTEN FUEL CAP’’ message will appear each time you restart the engine until the system turns the message off.' If you still have the error give your dealer a call as this should be a warranty repair/replacement.

I had that for no reason during one of our hottest weeks in VA. It went away a few days later.

Are you using the stock gas cap or did you buy one that is locking? If it's the stock gas cap I believe it'll be covered, if it's a locking one, you might want to confirm the part number. I purchased a locking one, so far after 1K miles it's still good, no message.

Update: The message is OFF this morning. So, it was just an intermittent spurious signal. Thanks for all the input.

I've had this happen to mine as well. It went away after a day. Had me worried for a minute, tho.

mine came on once after filling up. took off the cap (locking one from the fit) and re-tightened for 6-7 clicks. was still on. drove 6 miles, took it off and cleaned inside of the cap with a rag, re-tightened 5-6 clicks. this time i felt the threads engage a little harder and the message went away. its probably the threads not engaging correctly even though the cap is tight.

Default Cold morning message

The message just came on my car. It's a cold morning here (about 35 F) so maybe cold or hot weather can mess with the system ? Hope it goes away soon.
