Default FYI Tip – Rear door garnish seal

This week while I was washing my car I noticed that the rubber seal along the garnish of the rear passenger’s door was ‘popping out’ in the middle. Just pressing it back into place didn’t work. Looking in the manual I found that the garnish is held on by a Phillips screw at the bottom and a clip on the top. All it took was to loosen the screw (just loosen it a few turns) and then press the seal back into place while re-tightening the screw.

I don’t know if it was always like that or if I brushed up against it pulling it out of place. It’s just good to know it is an easy fix

Default Rubber Seal

Thanks for the info.

Mine has come out twice in the 2 months I've had the car. Once the dealer fixed it (I was in for other reasons anyway) and once I kinda brute forced it in.

Maybe a little tightening can prevent a recurrence.

Default Another Thanks

I too have had the rubber seal come loose. I never noticed the screw that you mentioned. Once you loosen the screw, reinsert the gasket and tighten the screw, the problem is solved.

Default And another thanks

I had the same problem and was totally frustrated with trying to get it to go back in. Your fix took all of 60 seconds and it is fixed. Thanks a bunch.

I love this forum.

More than a year later, mine has stayed in place. I'm glad others have had an 'easy fix' too So far this has been the only 'issue' I've had with my I2.

Even with the winter cold this year I still get better MPG in-town than my last car did on the highway in the summer, whats not to love.

Thanks MacNoob

JimJohn the same thing happened to me over the past 3-4 months. I have a japanese 2010 Insight and my rear door weatherstripping was popping out and finally I was thinking I would have to use some kind of weatherstripping adhesive.
And when I took my Insight into the dealer for routine service yesterday, I was surprised when they completely replaced the weatherstripping on both rear doors with new kits. It appears to be a new design. I have been looking on the internet to see if there is an official recall on the weatherstripping etc.
Anyway I thought you might be interested to hear that. It might become an official recall or something in the US.
