Lol GoMetric.. I tend to like me hearing to turn it up that loud, although I have lost some from a few years ago, ear infection damaged part of one of my inner ear. However, you can also drive with noise cancelling headphones / ear phones on, I have a set that I use when I fly below are the outputs from it..

You have to becareful where you stop with your headphoens or speakers.. On my home stereo (cheap stuff) I can hear 30-17K, on my ear phones 20-18K, on my headphones I can hear it from 20-19K, all hooked to an expensive sound blaster to the computer.

On my laptop same headphones cut off on 30-13K :-S

Funny you mention the inner ear infection, I got one about a year ago leaving me with constant ringing in one ear. I noticed the high pitched noise before that while in autostop, it reminds me of that electrical buzz i've noticed my laptop power adapter makes. I guess the ringing in my ear drowns out the car's, problem solved for me, unfortunately

I've had my Insight since January and have heard the high pitched sound. It always seemed to be coming from the front, but it wasn't until I removed the interior panels to install my new stereo, that I realized that it is actually coming from where the rear battery sits. Try taking the cover over the spare tire off and going for a ride and you'll see what I mean.
I also found out that the fan back there for the battery is pretty loud without the panels in place. It came on while I was driving and I was like WTF is that, but figured it out pretty quickly.

Ive said that before, but it fell on deaf ears. I think it is coming from the spare tire, not the tire, but the location.
