Hello,
Can anybody tell me please?
I have my Insight for less than a month.
And today, I forgot to turn of the headlight, after 4 hours I come back to the car and cannot start the car.
I haven't jumped started the battery yet, and one hour later, the anti-theft system was working ( I saw the red LED light working).
So I tried to start, and it works..
However, I didn't try to drive, I just turned it off, and tried to start again.
I could start but it was off after 10 seconds (unlike the first time that it was 2 minutes, and it was me who turn it off).
Now I see the red LED light again, if I could start it again, should I drive it? Or better have jump start? I am afraid that if I drive the car will be dead on the road!!
Drive the car. The DC to DC converter will charge the 12 volt battery while you drive. It may be prudent to minimize the electrical loads that are on while you drive.
Ive had my 12V battery go flat on me twice since I got the car in November. once when I left the overhead light on overnight, and once when the car was not used for just over 2 weeks.
In my 30+ years of driving, Ive never had a battery go flat on me before, so I do consider the insight 12v battery to be "bad by design".
Even my old Prius didnt have this problem, and it (also) had onyl a 12v bike battery.
So now I have a portable 12V booster incase I need to jump start it, my garage has no power in it and its underground.
I was at the dealer last week to get my summer tires fitted. I mentioned about the battery and he tried to feed me bull about how I must be doing short drives. The drive before i parked and left the car was short I guess. About 800Km!
I did ask him what to do if I left the car at the airport for a few weeks when we go on holiday, he didnt reply.
Good job Honda gives free breakdown assist. I can see it getting used a lot.
