Took my EX to the dealer for its first oil change and tire rotation at 7K. The good news is it was only $53 OTD, the bad news is that the speedometer is stuck in Km/ph. Changing the miles/km as described in the manual does not fix it. In 'miles' mode the MID displays miles and mpg, but the speedometer is still in Km, in 'auto' the MID displays Km, leading me to believe the 'Km/Miles' button to the left on the dashboard is stuck down. Perhaps this button is part of the 'oil life' reset procedure, and they had to push and hold it as part of this procedure and now its stuck. I assumed when I left the dealer that I could fix it using the manual. I'm going back tomorrow to see if they can fix it.
Well, when I got to the dealer the technician came out to look, he redid the oil life reset, looked through the MID, then pushed the same Km/Miles button on the left side of the dash and this time it worked ! Evidently it takes a longer push and I was pushing it to quickly. DUH They were very nice about it, but I can imagine dumb customers like me are irritating.
The quick 'oh, here you go' type stuff doesn't irritate people.
The stuff that irritates people when troubleshooting an issue is when someone asks a question and then a person gives an answer of what they think that person wants to hear to try to speed up the process and that false information leads to trying to look somewhere else for a problem. I work with computers and servers all the time and get this sort of thing all the time, but most of the time you can tell when someone says 'yes' but they don't know.
I'd imagine it's not much different for a mechanic either. It's easy to think that you are irritating someone, but when a job involves helping people with things, usually if you think you are irritating, 99% of the time you really aren't.
I thought my km/mpg button wasn't working on mine too because the rest of the buttons only need a short press, it wasn't after I tried to 'rub the button' a bit thinking that the area behind the switch was a bit dirty that it switched and then I realized it wasn't broken.

All our cars must be different. My wife's car is going in for the first oil change at around 10,000 miles. It has 9,600 miles now and 20% oil life left. Maybe it is the way we drive, but I'm glad I don't have to take it in every 3,000 miles!

It's more about how we drive. I accelerated the oil change cycle by driving 1000+ miles at 10-mph over the speed limit instead of my normal at-the-limit snail's pace.
What I find funny is that the Service Department told me to come back at 3,000 miles while my salesperson whispered in my ear, "Don't change the oil until the car tells you!"

Yeah same thing here, I went to the dealer for oil change at +9k miles, with 30% oil life, they told me to come back after 3500 miles, yeah sure, I got +13k miles and 60% oil life, 90% of my driving is on e-way.
