Default Rain gutter flew off.

I've seen a couple other posts, but just thought I'd mention my roof rain gutter trim (drivers side) hauled arse on me today. I was driving down the freeway when I heard a slapping noise and then whoosh... off it went in my rear view mirror. The semi behind me was not impressed as it smacked his bumper and gave me the universal sign of appreciation

Having my wife bring the car in to Honda this week while I'm out on business to try and get it replaced. FWIW I'd NOT had the car through a car wash since owning it.

Sure hope this isnt a sign of things to come!

Not at this moment, but basically above the doors on the edge of the roof are two rain gutters/channels. Inside SHOULD be a black plastic or rubber liner. That liner is what flew took a flight on my car.

You know, this sounds like such a common problem on the I2s that I'm starting to wonder why Honda doesn't do a recall order to make a simple fix so this will quit happening. Maybe they are reluctant to do that because of all the bad press that Toyota is still getting, but this kind of design flaw really makes the company look silly...and shortsighted.

I'm not sure if its recall worthy, but a TSB would be nice.

Not to go off on a tangent... but I'm just a little surprised this is even happening. I've owned 7 Civics and 3 Accords (of which my 1990 Accord w/330k is still trucking) and nothing like this has ever happened. My Insight is starting to develop a few rattles all of the sudden, and the glovebox refuses to sit flush with the dash. The windows rattle bad in the tracks when partially down too.

Not reporting anything new here, but I'm just a little shocked given my previous experience with owning Honda's. The only issue I've ever had to deal with before was the usual honda wheel arch rust.

Mine came undone on the passenger side the first time the car was washed. 700 miles on the odometer and the strip won't stay in place. Haven't mentioned it to the dealer yet, I'll just wait for both to fall/blow/wander off...

I's been mentioned here before - crimp the retaining clips with a pair of pliers before reinstalling and the problem is solved...

That's what I did on my passenger side one, and so far it hasn't come back off. Oddly, I haven't had any issues with the driver side one

Someone suggested using vice grips (locking pliers), but I just had needle nose pliers, and I ended up crimping them too much at first and had to spend some time getting the slot back open enough so that it could be reinstalled.

Default Rain Gutters flying off

I too have had the rain gutter trim come off. first on the passenger side then a few weeks later on the driver side. This happend right after car washes. Each time I managed to retrieve and reinstall. Waiting for my first oil change to have the dealer fix under waranty. Thought about "crimping" the attachment point, but will let the dealer figure it out.

Otherwise, love the car.

Default Rain Gutters

mine have also came off after a car wash but I believe only from the blowers/dryers at the end of the car wash. I took it to my Honda dealership and they quickly put them back on but I was definitely surprised that this happened in the first place. they should be glued down or fastened a lot tighter so that this doesn't happen.
