Default Low level illumination of steering wheel controls

I have my dash almost at the max illumination but it does not seem to affect the readability of the controls on either side of the steering wheel. Thus, I have a difficult time reading the radio volume/channel controls on the left and the MID and cruise controls on the right. The lighting of these is very faint, compared to the dash. Any way to adjust this?

I believe that the whole idea of steering wheel controls is that you do not need to look at them. Over time you just become familiar with their location and function, operation becomes second nature. Just my 2¢.
