Default Rear shocks need replacing

Just found out that the seal on one rear shock is bad and that the seal on the other shock is failing also. Only 13,000 miles. Makes me worry about the quality of the parts on my Insight.

Hmm, that's not good. Will Honda replace them under warranty? I don't pretend to know much (or any, really) about the mechanics of a car, but what would the symptoms of bad shocks be? Harsh ride? Fluid leaking?

Yes they will be replaced under warranty. Just need to wait a week for them to get the parts in. I noticed a puddle of fluid under the car by the rear tire. Upon further inspection, I saw that the shock was completely covered in oil.

Just wondering if there's any kind of weight loads or possibly extra rough roads you might drive on? Or just lite duty use?

One failing shock can be atributted to faulty mechanical construction/assembly, but both of them???
Unless the roads you drive on are worse than the ones I use (I seriously doubt that) shouldn't the front shocks be a bit "affected" as well? Have you checked those as well?

Ever drive next to a car that was slowly bouncing up and down uncontrollably? Or when their tires are bouncing up and down like someone was dribbling your wheel like a basketball?

Hopefully this isn't a widespread issue. I'm curious who manufactured the shocks on our Insights.

I had a similar problem with the front shocks on my Civic (replaced under warranty). THe Ridgeline, a vehicle you expect would at least be able to handle rough roads, blew out all 4 shocks/struts when driven across a washboard road at low speed (10-15 mph) by Consumer Reports.

Just normal everyday use. Not carrying anything in the back. Did have the tires up around 40lbs though. Not sure if that would have contributed. I have since lowered the pressures a bit in case that was a factor. I have not looked at the front shocks at this point, but I may have them look when I have it in to replace the rears.
