I am not sure you can still get these tiny color repaid bottles...in Greece you cannot since 199something. You can visit a local professional car paint shop and they will prepare your match in 5 minutes for a small cost. Yet, painting dots and very small cracks/chips in paint is not always necessarily aesthetically positive concerning the end result.
If the chip is on a metal surface, treat it immediatelly so as to prevent corrosion. If it is on a plastic surface, I would not worry that much. You can wait untill there are enough chips to take it to a professional to paint the whole fender for instance.
Talking about chips, my color (cerulean blue) is chipping away under the car. You can tell there is more than enough paint over there and it dripped before the color was left to dry. Not a very good finishing job at all. Yet, there is adequate paint under the chips and it does not concern me that much...
Can i go to the dealer and buy those little bottle paint to paint over two little chipped holes? How do you guys deal with chipped paint?
Hi
I too noticed couple chips away from my brand new Blue honda Insight 2010. Its just 5 months now, very careful in driving/parking but yet i see little black spots, chiping etc.. I even put in a protective coat at the very first day before taking car to the road. May be is it case with every one of new honda insight owners??
I am not sure, what should I do.. if I talk to the dealer, he is saying chiping away is not warrantable under the protective warranty, it could be road rocks or road salt.. etc.. How come a brand new car has these black spots??
IMHO, I'd say live with the chips and don't conceal them with touch-up paint. The touched up areas may look ok as long as you look at them from a distance, like 5 feet and more. When you approach closer, they look worse than not touched up. This is due to the uneven thickness and the color (they are never perfect match due to your original paint has been fading under normal care) of the paint applied.
Depending on your expectation of the results, an auto bodyshop maybe your final solution.
I have quite a few of these really minor nicks, presumably from road debris (I always seem to get a good pelting from trucks on the highway).
I'm going to get my car detailed soon and I'm going to ask the guy what he would suggest for these spots. I don't really want to mask it, it gives it character, but I don't want to have to get a new paint job in the first 5 years. After 8 or 10 years, I think I could deal with a paint job, if need be.
What I said is if you really want to fix the chips and get your car back to the original condition/look, go visit an auto bodyshop. And, the chips I was referring are those minor ones caused by light road debris.
All chips I got on my car were those damaged the top paint layer and revealed the white base. Rust is not a concern unless I can see the bare, black, metal but to me that's considered severe chip.
