Default Scratches on roof?

I was waxing my car last weekend, and came across quite a few scratches on the roof that I had to touch up. For those of you who go through the carwash and then just reattach the rubber stripping, do you think the stripping flopping around could be causing this?
I do also seem to always get a lot of rocks kicked back at me on the highway, so this could be the obvious cause, but I can't help but wonder if it's the strips. I'm going to try to tighten the hook part like some others have done.

The only time the strip on the roof really came close to coming completely off, it was hanging down to the side, not on the roof, so I'm not sure about that. As for rocks, I would think they would leave more of a "chip" than a "scratch", but fortunately I've managed to avoid getting hit by a lot of road debris - the dings in my door, however, are testament to my not-so-good luck with parking lots

Also, be careful that you don't pinch the metal slot too tight - I didn't have vice grips (as someone suggested to use) and used needle-nose pliers and ended up accidentally closing it off too much and it wouldn't fit. I pried it open enough to get it back on, but it actually still doesn't fit quite right :-/

Yeah some were just dings, but there was a section of ding/scratches all next to each other. Like something initially dug in and then scraped across a little less deep.
I wonder if some sort of glue might be a better option? Like just sticking it on the circle part of the clasp, and then hoping that the glue dries and keeps it in place?

Yeah, I was going to try glue first, but then got impatient

Maybe someone here has already glued it and can recommend something...?

The scratches are from road rash bouncing off your roof from the big semi trucks. Our windshields are raked back soo far the stuff just flys up it and lands mid way down.

I got 3 demples on my roof.

Err, you should just glue in the weather stripping on the roof. Its a gasket to help channel air back, but allow water to run off. Id put a bop of glue at the front and rear mount point or rtv.

Myself, I drive out before the blow drying starts at most car washes and wipe my baby down myself. Amazing how much dirt those car washers miss.

Yeah, it always seems that I hear a loud thunk on the roof whenever I'm on 95

I put globs of tacky glue on the connectors. Next time I go through the carwash I'll report back as to what happened.
