Unhappy iPhone 4 compatibility issues ?

Hi,

Ive been using a iPhone 3Gs with iOS4 without problems. I now have an iPhone 4 and I cant get the iPod connector kit to work correctly.

I get an unsupported message, just like before, but the iPhone doesn't react to the control. If I start music and then connect to the car it plays through. Speech from Navigon also goes through. The phone also charges normally. Anyone else got this, or got the iPhone4 to work correctly ?

I found the solution. A simple reboot wont work, in my case it was a new phone, but others have reported a similar problem with older (working) phones that had an upgrade to iOS 4.

1. disconnect the iPhone
2. Power down the Iphone (slider to power off)
3. power on the radio
4. connect the iPhone to the usb port/iPod kit cable
5. the iPhone will reboot, if it doesn't then power it on.
6. wait for reboot to complete.

Try to play a tune over the ipod form a the car. It should now work. This solution works for various cars. Apparently it forces the radio and iPhone to renegotiate the protocols. Worked for me

I was told by AT&T that powering down with the slider is not rebooting, it's only putting it to sleep. In order to reboot you need to hold the 'home' button and the top button until the phone restarts. He also said to do that every few days for best performance.

The AT&T guy was wrong.
A tap on the top switch put it to sleep, a long hold and slide powers off.
The home power switch forces a reboot, as does the power off.

It is however correct that the iPhone should be rebooted every so often, i reboot mine once a month, but via the power button. The home power method is best for really bad situation, like a zombie process causing the battery to go flat quick.

I work for Apple btw.

I've used an iPhone4 successfully in my UK Spec ES-T. Initially I connected to the USB lead in the central armrest but now I use the bluetooth audio feature where the music/podcasts stream from the iphone to the Navi sound system. (its really neat!)

I also have an iPod classic 120GB successfully working off the USB for my good lady wife to use when I (and my iPhone4) are not in the car.

Overall its the best iPod/iPhone integration I've seen in any car to date (although I'm sure other brand new cars are similar.)

FYI -
I had issues with both my wife's iPhone 3GS and my own iPod Touch 2G with OS 4.0.0. The current iOS 4.0.1 fixed whatever problems there were and the interface functions as it should.
