Yesterday I tried to find the nearest Taco Bell drive-thru while on the way home. The navi found one close by. I routed it there only to find that the Taco Bell was a Starbucks. Funniest of all, it's been a Starbucks for many years. I checked the navi again to show all the Taco Bells in my vicinity and the next nearest one was approx. 10 miles away. But then within a mile there was another Taco Bell on same street I was on but it was not listed in the navi.
Any update DVD available for the Insight? Last time I checked on the Honda website only other model Hondas came up.
Well...since no one responded to my post, I called Honda Customer Service. I was referred to the 800 number for Alpine, which makes the navi system. They said the disc I have is the most current. They couldn't explain the Taco Bell/Starbucks issue, but did say perhaps either company possibly did not update their information to the navi system by the time of the last update, which was Sept. 09. She stated updates are done every 12-18 months, and she took down my info so that I would be registered/notified when there is an update.
There's no map update for the I2 yet. Of course, this is to update maps, but I'm sure whatever navi DVD they send you has the ability to update firmware as well.
Just out of curiosity, I looked at some of the '09 models that do have updates available.
Cost: $185.
Really? O_o
Don't think I'll be updating my navi anytime soon for that price. I could get a nice Garmin and mount it directly on that screen for that price.
I hate hate hate the insight nav system. It cannot find half the restaurants/places I want new or old from the day I drove it off the lot. It is pathetic compared to a real nav system. It is a big ripoff and the only reason I got it was I wanted hands free. Honda needs to dump this crap navigation company. They obviously don't consider quality to be a selling point. And 12-18 months between updates? WTF? What possible excuse do they have for such a ridiculous interval? And they want $200 for new updates? Just a big scam. I need an update but I can't justify paying that much when I know it's going to be just as bad. If I want to find something I have to punch it in google maps on my phone and then if I need to after that, find somewhere on the nav system close to it. Did I mention how much I hate this nav system?
I just spoke with a representative at the Honda Navigation Center (1-888-291-4675). A new release is coming this Friday, Sept. 24. It can be ordered at The Official Honda Map Update Site

I guess I completely disagree. I was in Cleveland, Kentucky, and central Pennsylvania. I would tell the nav find nearest restauraunt or find nearest hotel and it would always list them. I know for taco bell you have to say find nearest fast food. Maybe that will help? I am very pleased with the Nav. I have a Garmin too and the only thing that my Insight Nav doesn't do that my Garmin did was give me traffic updates and reroute to avoid traffic. I have XM radio service so I just listen to the traffic updates on XM 215 for Pittsburgh. I would say that the XM also told me about traffic on Route 65 in Pittsburgh which my Garmin never did.
But overall I couldn't be more pleased. Oh and on the updates I have bought an update for my Chrysler 300 C. They come out I think every two years and cost about $249. I think the Honda will be the same.
Just got off the phone with Honda Navi Center- still no update as of Monday morning, September 27. I was told "today or tomorrow." Will wait and see. Also, because I was curious, I asked whether the update includes a UI refresh. It does not- only an updated database of points of interest. When asked whether it fixed the bug reported here and elsewhere online, the representative was unaware of any known issues.

It looks like the new DVD is available for purchase.
