Potential problem developing with front brake rotor.
I only have about 2,700 miles on my Insight and noticed something today. My drivers side brake rotor has a slight but significant score(all the way around); that I can see and feel with my finger. This Insight is my first Honda. Is this typical or atypical with these cars? If this isn't supposed to happen, is this type potential developing brake problem covered under warranty?
No, not yet. Upon closer examination , it appears like the "score" is actually a raised area. In any event, it's not completely smooth; like the other side
The mechanics found no rocks or debris caught in between the pad and rotor. They did find blue streaks; which meant that something made the rotor get hot and score. I have to bring my car back next week so the regional manager can look at it and give the OK to have the repair covered under warranty. Apparently anything brake related is not automatically covered. The repair/parts guy told me of instances where customers had to pay for repairs on brand new cars; for brake issues. One woman had less than 300 miles on her car and had to pay.
I use to burn my brakes, I could tell by smell when I parked. I bought some ceramic pads, but never installed them. I did bleed the cylinders and adjust or snug up the rear brakes and that fixed it.
