Angry flimsy door armrest

When I bought my Insight about a year ago, I was concerned about the amount of flex in the door armrest - but foolishly thought Honda would not build car on which the armrest was not strong enough to last for a good many years. I thought it must be a flexible, but strong, material.

Last week mine broke. I noticed a line in the fabric, and sure enough, underneath the line is a crack in the supporting plastic.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have never had an armrest break so quickly. The armrests on my Accord with 85K, V70 with 85K, and Forester with 140K are all still in great condition.

I had made peace with most of my other concerns about this car, because it does meet my basic commuting needs very well (though the forced regen when going up hills is still very annoying), but I am very upset about this.

I have not taken it back to the dealer yet. Even if they were willing to replace it under warranty, I don't really want them just replacing the inner panel with the same thing. IMHO, Honda should design a replacement with stronger material for the armrest and provide it as a free upgrade. I plan to file complaint with Honda.
