Default Low volume through aux jack?

Is anyone else having this problem? I have an ipod shuffle that I plug into the aux jack on the dash, but the volume is not adequate unless you're sitting in the garage with the car not running. I've checked to make sure the connections are sucure, I just can't hear the darn thing! Any suggestions besides buying a $400 ipod?

First a quick question. Are you using a headphone adapter cable?
As I understand it, the iPod Shuffle normally uses specific headphones with built-in volume buttons. In order to use "normal" headphones or to connect to an AUX input, you need an adapter cable. I use something like this:
Shuffle Headphone Adapter Shuffle Headphone Adapter

After you get that corrected, if you find you still need more volume, you'll need some sort of pre-amp. Google "portable headphone amp" or "Sound Shocker Pro" and you'll find lots of info.

Default No problem with XM

I have my portable XM radio plugged in through the aux port and have no volume issues.

Is there any reason you don't want to plug in your iPod through the USB interface?

My shuffle worked OK, at least until I lost it. I don't think you need a special cable, just turn the volume up on the shuffle. You do need the radio volume at the high end. I always used the headphone jack, I don't know if it works with the usb adaptor cable.

Thanks for the replies. I went to RS and bought a aux cable and the problem is now solved. I use the aux jack because the Shuffle won't work with the USB connection in the arm rest. Anyway, good to go!!!
