Default Unplayable file with WMA on USB Drive

I just purchased my Insight EX Saturday. So far it is a wonderful vehicle. However, I cannot get music off my 32 GB USB flash drive. I have searched through past postings, which led me to try reformatting my USB drive, ensuring it is FAT32, etc., but despite all efforts I get an "Unplayable file" message as the sound system attempts to access each file.

The files are all .wma files. My OS on my laptop is W7. I can play the files from the USB drive on any computer/laptop I have tried with WXP or W7 OS.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the car can't read WMA files. Try converting them to MP3?

This thought has crossed my mind, but will become a last resort as I am a bit stubborn in trying to resolve issues. My manual clearly says that the unit should play .wma files and other postings I've found in this forum indicate that others have played .wma files, often, apparently, with no difficulty.

My latest "guess" at a possible issue is that the files ripped from CD's I own into Windows Media Player on my laptop retained their copy protection. I thought that that feature was turned off by default, but I may be mistaken. I won't get access to my laptop to check until I get home from work later today.

Yeah, I have no idea.. sorry I can't offer more advice, I don't have a fancy head unit. I play my MP3s through a tape adapter. :P LOL

Default USB files are not copy protected

I just looked at the file properties on my USB drive. They are not copy protected. So that idea is out the window.

Any suggestions?

Default I've finally figured it out!

It turns out that the car's player will not play .wma lossless formatted files. Once I degraded the quality of the recordings on the flash drive, all worked well.

- Try loading mp3s onto the drive
- Try a smaller drive, say 4GB
