Default Ticking Sound ???

I realize the issue has been obliquely referenced in several I2 posts, and tackled head on in the I1 section, but has anyone noticed a slight ticking sound coming from under the hood even when warm ... it might be valve tap as it is quite muted, but some have also mentioned something about the fuel injectors, egr, piston slap, etc., so on and so forth ... the last time i lashed valves was with my pig -- a boss mustang -- and it is somewhat familiar though less pronounced ... at any rate, i thought i would inquire with others in the community ... normal ??? should i be worried ???

It's done it since it was new 'out of the box.'

Nothing unusual seems to be the general consensus.

i just noticed it at about 1000 miles when i had the window down (now i'm at 3400 and its the same) ... very subtle ticking sound and i'm sure nothing to worry about but i thought it best to check with the experiences of other I2 owners ... i think i'll go old school and take a section of old garden hose and use it like a stethoscope around the inside of the engine bay

The only ticking sound I hear in my Insight, almost sounds like a computer mouse-click and only once in a blue-moon. Not so much hear it anymore.

I only hear it when I have the hood up.

I first noticed it when I bought it and took it over to my folks and showed my father the engine bay.

It's quite noticeable when the hood open.

Then we had a discussion about this noise previously a couple months back on here. My dad thought it was the injectors, I think Cobb pointed out it was something different. Either way, doesn't seem harmful and is "working as intended."

My clicks didn't sound like engine noises. Like I said, it sounded like the "click" you hear when you click onto a link on some web sites. Almost exact same sound, but faint.

I've got 38,000 miles on mine and it's still quiet as I bought it. The only ticking sound I hear is when it's parked and idling with the hood up, but that's just because it's turned off 2 of the four cylinders (from what I've read) and it's nothing to worry about it's an engine after all....

I've never heard of selective cylinder deactivation at idle on these cars. Where did you read that? Can you post a link?

It does make a singer sewing machine sound at idle regardless of engine temp. Ive tried to trace the sound and it seems to come from something related to the fuel injection. Its a set of solonoids that meters the fuel from what I can tell between the head and air cleaner.
