Question Remove / Replace Visors

HI, this is my first question. I just bought a 2011 I2 Base. It was the only one they had, and with the Tsunami I thought I shouldn't pass it up since I was just giddy when I test drove it!

So since I've never owned a base anything... I'm replacing just about anything I can from the EX Parts List. I'm ready to put in the visors with the mirrors now, and can't figure out how to get them off. I am getting everything (So Far) from cheaphondaparts.com and they told me that the service instructions said to use a flat bladed screwdriver and pry a tab... That isn't obvious / easily done. Any one have any experience with this?

It is tricky but not impossible.

Start with the visor stowed. There should be a hole in front side of the bracket cover. Push the screwdriver in to depress a pin, then unhook and rotate the visor about 45 degrees back As you rotate it, the whole thing will move IF you pushed the pin in correctly. If all goes well, it will puill down after it has rotated.

Sweet. Maybe now I can take the visors inside to work on getting those unsightly warning labels off (unless someone has a quick way of doing it otherwise)!

Smile Thanks.

I just ended up releasing the tab like you said with a screw driver, and then pried it down since it wouldn't turn with that pin engaged. It's about an inch long, so I just pried it down enough to get a pair of cutters in there to snip it off. Since I was replacing them, It didn't matter to me to keep them pristine. Then they did rotate and came right off. The new one went in like a dream, and I'm happy with them. I happy to become a member of these fine forums and will gladly become a lifetime member if they are still available. I should be a lively participant as my time permits.

I have the base model also and am very happy. I made the choice based on the price of the LX and the features I did not think worth it. I considered adding the upgrades after market when I want. Have you added rear speakers or an upgraded radio? How about a center console?

Got mine for $17,100 + tax/lic with .9% finance. So happy with this also. I am getting actual 43.7 mpg @ 4500 miles.

I solved the lack of visor mirror problem with a $2.50 clip on mirror from Wal-Mart... I know it sounds cheesy, but if you haven't already sunk money into the part, the one I bought is holding on nicely and covering the sticker!

Smile My upgrades (So far...)

Yes I did get and upgrade the Audio system from Crutchfield :

Kenwood KDC-X995 CD Receiver
Kenwood KCA-IP101 USB iPod Connection Cable
Sirius Direct Satellite Radio Package for Kenwood
Polk Audio db 651s 6-1/2" Slim 2-way Speakers (Front)
Polk Audio db 651s 6-1/2" Slim 2-way Speakers (Back)

Very clean Highs (no need for tweeters in the dash) and a good punch on the lows...

And from CheapHondaParts.com, I also got a center console for the added storage and usb connection. I've been ordering from the EX Parts list.

I had an Code alarm with remote start installed, and also Rostra Cruse Control.

And then today I just ordered Leather Clazzio Seat Covers and extra material for the doors and console.

They look just like factory seats, and make them feel like sports car seats - that grip you with memory foam.

Front and back headrests and compatible with the side airbags. I followed a link there from somewhere here in the forums. Thanks to you to sir!

It's just about where I want it to be.

It's my first Honda and I Love It!

I too have a base model coming from Japan and it should be here in a week or 2 (I wanted the base model.) 3 questions. First, does it require slim speakers to mount in the back and second, where did you find the center console? I looked on CheapHondaParts.com and saw nothing. Did you have a part number? Third, is yours a 2012? Mine hasn't arrived yet and I am told it is a 2011. Thanks.

Cool

First, I'm not sure about the requirement of Slim Speakers, because Crutchfield picked them out for me. But they are Slim. I had to trim the plastic on the back of the door panel to accommodate the speaker adapter and speaker (I used a wood chisel because it was very sharp). I secured the adapters with 1 1/2" self-tapping metal screws with a small pilot hole.

Something I learned at the HondaPartsCheap.com was that Honda uses all the same wiring harnesses on all Insight models, so you can take advantage of that with an adapter from Crutchfield too.

My next project will be putting in the EX Dome lights...

Second, the link to the console is:

South Bay Honda - Honda Automotive Parts Store
(Try highlighting and pasting that in your browser)

And the main part number is;

83450-TM8-A12ZB CONSOLE, CENTER *NH751L* 1 $199.71 $0.00 $199.71

Remember to get all the accompanying bolts and pockets, lid, back and brake lever covers... the front portion of your base console will fit on the new one.

If you call them they would be happy to put together an order for you.

1-877-475-1145

And lastly, I don't know anyone there, but do highly recommend them. They were very helpful.

Mine is a Clear Sky Blue Metallic 2011. 45mpg with 1240 miles.

Thanks for the very useful response. I had not seen the parts chart on their site, so excellent. I have a red base model that I am now told should be here by Thursday. If I decide to buy instead of leasing then I will be considering some limited mods such as a Bluetooth stereo and the center console. Otherwise as a lease vehicle I wouldn't plan to make any changes. Can I assume that the speaker harness was there already or did you have to run cabling for the rear speakers as adding those to a lease vehicle would not hurt anything.
