I have a 2003 Insight with CVT. Recently, the IMA light came on and stayed on for about 6 days but went out the day before I had an appointment with the dealer. They told me it wasn't worth looking at if the light isn't on, so I didn't leave it with them.
I notice that the gauge seems to go down to about 2-3 bars very quickly - doesn't seem to hold the charge like it used to. Does this mean it's time to replace? The battery is still under warranty. I only have about 56K miles on the car, but do a lot of mountain driving. Could it be something besides the battery?

Hey Kim -
So, a few things.
1. You might want to post in the Gen 1 area
2. You might search this site - there's quite a bit of talk about how to diagnose, what to look for, etc.
3. As you search, you'll find Hybrid-Battery-Repair - quite a helpful guy too.
Good luck!

with such low mileage i doubt the ima battery is the culprit ... it sounds like your 12v battery might be on its way out, which sometimes causes anomalies in the rest of the cars systems ... you should however direct your q to the I1 forum - this is the I2 forum ... good luck

Anyone have some insight to share on this topic?
Thanks!

Go to your local Autozone and have your codes read for free (unless the dealer cleared them). Let us know what they are.

Miles doesn't matter. In fact, so few miles is likely the reason the battery has failed.

yes and no ... below avg miles is OK so long as the car is used regularly
Yeah, that's true. Though "regularly" is open for interpretation. A 5 minute drive every 2 days probably wouldn't be good enough.
It's also possible that the 2nd gen manages the battery differently, perhaps significantly.
With the 1st gen.. A drive a day keeps the IMA light away! lol
